I dont have a v8 but assure u they don't last behind diesels, so it will not last behind a v8.

I wouldn't be loading it up too much or tramping it or you will be in trouble, and really you have a v8 as if you arnt gonna wanna give it a boot full.

Up to you see how it goes but if you have no coin either start looking for another max $100 (i see n buy them at this for mine) or do the right thing and either go auto or r series box.

You know what I do for my diesel with the g52
- NRMA premium care towing when it blows up and take a spare box to comps as it can't be trusted

Totally concur with what brad said, it just won't hold up long term bud.

My suggestion is while your doing the motor swap change the box as well.

Best bet would be an R150 or R151 out of the Surf's, or at the very least a W56.

Both have chain drive transfer cases too which unless you need reduction gears the chain drive cases are slightly stronger than gear drive anyway.

Bite the bullet man, you don't want to be getting towed or fixing out in the bush, but I did what brad did as well, NRMA premium roadside is awesome!!
