TD engine oil, brand and grade.

Post by rustyvit »

A recent discussion on engine got me looking closer at engine oil again. What engine oil are you using in your turbo diesels? brand, grade, oil change schedule, any other relevant comments.

Edit: Same with oil filters, are you buying on price or specification or other?

Nissan Patrol TD42T, running aftermarket turbo @ 28psi, water/meth injection 175RWKW

Caltex Delo 400 15W40, changed every 4-5000km, 2 genuine Nissan filters with each change.

Td42 same specs as above minus meth and a few killawasps.

Delo 14-40 or castrol gtx 15-40

I wont use penrite anymore after installing an oil pressure guage and watching it lose pressure after a bit of hard work.

The delo and castrol seem drop less in pressure and recover quicker.

gudday,

TD42T with a few goodies, 30 + psi, built engine 5 years ago, tows a 3 ton boat, gets driven hard, still going strong on Fuchs XTM15w40, blew a head gasket and over heated badly - when head was pulled I expected to see uglyness but this oil held together. there's probably better out there but this works for me.

cheers garth

Castrol oil, Toyota genuine filters @ 10k intervals.

Does anyone know if it is cheaper in 100lt or 200lt drums?
I'm keen to buy bulk, as I go through at least 100lt a year.
