how easy is it to install extractors ?
im wanting to buy a set of extractors and the exhaust for my feroza
i was thinking of buying the MRT kit
any suggestions on whats the best kit?>
also how hard is it to install it all myself ?
just bolting some parts together ?

MRT's supposedly bolt straight on and come with a flexi join standard- the quality of the weldling has been a bit suss from some reports......
All the others AFAIK will need to be welded onto the flange infront of your standard cat; plus a small mount made for them to bolt onto the gearbox. You'll also have to make a bracket for the coolant pipe to bolt onto for probably all of them.
Installation involves removing your air filter canister and associated tubing for access to the manifold bolts etc. (that's for a RHD Feroza BTW!) I found one of the studs going into the head had broken off before we even removed the standard manifold- luckily it had broken just under the nut and there was enough stud length with the thinner extractors to still use the stud.
It would be wise to remove the heatshield the night before and liberally spray all the manifold bolts with some sort of penetrating oil before attacking them.
If you search you'll find I've listed elsewhere all the brands who make header to suit and pics of mine (which probably still aren't working??)...

Get your extractors from Liverpool Exhausts in Sydney...$290 with the gasket (make sure you ask 'em for the gasket)+ $100 if you want a flex joint. I reckon you won't need the flex joint with theirs though, coz they're a pretty robust unit.
As far as fitting them goes, you'll need somebody to weld 'em up to your existing system.....if you're in Sydney, you can get them to do it. Otherwise, just get your local exhaust mob to do 'em. Shouldn't cost more than $50.
Bolting 'em up to the car is really easy!!!!! Shouldn't take more than 1/2 an hour even if you've never wielded a spanner in anger b4. The only drama you may have is getting the old Oxygen sensor out...In a lot of Australian Feroza's, you may need to source a new one, coz they can be an absolute MOTHER TRUCKER to get out.

DEFINITELY get the Flex Joint between the Extractors & Cat - doesn't matter how well made the Extractors are - it will just take out the Cat instead & this is just as pricey as the Extractors Mine did - seen it happen on others as well. The amount the Feroza engine torques demands a flex point in the exhaust somewhere.
If you have done more than 100k kms then also consider replacing the Cat as well - replace it with the biggest highest flow one you can. Because of the honeycomb construction the Cat is the biggest restriction in the whole system & also clogs up over time before falling apart & then taking out your muffler as the bits get blown out the exhaust. The higher flow of the extractors make this more likely as well. Might as well do it right.
I actually noticed at least TWICE the improvement in power from going from the Genie Extractors / 2 1/4" Exhaust / Sports Muffler + Standard Cat to the same Extractor setup with the new High Flow Cat ( after my other one split thru ) with a Flex Joint installed & MRT Exhaust - all due to the Cat Converter.
Also said this before - NO problems with MRT from my end - well designed Bolt On system - comes standard with Flex Joint, can be ordered with High Flow Cat as well - legal, & does come with 12 month warranty from memory - give them a ring at least & see if they address your concerns.......remember, you get what you pay for.
The ONLY part that survived 12 months in my first system was the Genie Extractors ( installed by Genie Authorised exhaust shop ) The system destroyed my Cat Converter, the Muffler fell apart & I was constantly having to reconnect the Exhaust Hangers after I went offroad as they kept falling off the hooks. The MRT system from the Flex Joint, High Flow Cat, Muffler & pipes survived for 5 years including 2 major Outback Trips, 2 Fraser Island Trips, Porters Rd, countless Stockton, Lithgow, Watagans, Yawal, Barrington runs & daily driving as well. Never had to touch it. Can't ask for more than that....

I haven't had the rear section done yet- have been quoted $290 for 2" with a resonator and a muffler.... I had some free help with the fitting of the extractors.
Mine are from Liverpool Exhaust BTW- the brand name is Hurricane. If you want pics I can post some.

There was another post on WARFS about two days ago commenting on the suss welding quality of MRT extractors (and no, it wasn't posted by me! )

The guy's an Aussie too, so it's got nothing to do with extreme temps, salt on roads for ice etc.
