hey guys I've blown up the motor in my cruiser... well its done a crank and needs to be replaced..
I've been offered a 1HDT-FT complete brand new in a box.. including turbo, manifold, pump, injectors ,starter, alternator, everything ready to drop in.. all 100% BRAND NEW..
what's the motor worth to buy.. he wants 15 grand.. but to rebuild my 1HZ and turbo it and do fuel pump to suit the turbo is going to cost close to 11 or 12 grand
Regards Cohen

Re: 1HDT-FT question
2nd hand ones at the wreckers with a few kms..
around 10 to 12g.
you could do a mongrel hybrid of 1hdt and 1hz
but cost wise..
the new crate motor might be better option.
id imagine no warranty offered..
how long its been sitting in the box..
does this affect long term reliability

Re: 1HDT-FT question
There have been import FTE engines on sale for 8k of late, probably similar or less for a FT
So a rebuilt(crate engine) should be about 5-6k on top of that realistically. I wouldn't pay 15k for a FT, a few grand less at least. I know the FT is a great engine and the FTE i have is even better, BUT ..........
They have been overpriced for years. Considering the cost of wrecked at auction 1VD engine'd vehicles, or the cost of gettng 6BT cummins's and Duramax's at 10 or less for an entire front cut there's NO WAY i'd pay that much for an old skool 6 pot any more. I don't care if every man and his dog THINKS that's what they should be getting for them that's the truth. These days a rebuilt 6pot jap engine should only be worth a few grand more than it's rebuild cost. Period. Just like any other 10-15 year old engine from any other car out there
