Gidday Frank,
I was thinking about the lower gears for the 3.5l & was wondering that although no one has c ompared them to the 3.ol gears there probably isnt too much difference in the physical gears. Both are the same ratio , ie 1.9 so it could be possible that they are actually the same part or just a minor variation. I dont know but maybe the gears that Mark has cut for thew 3.0l would be a straight swap in for trhe 3.5l gears as well or at worse only need to be slightly modded.
What do you reckon , mate, have you access to part numbers to check.
cheers

lower gears for 3.5l (aimed at Frank)

Ian, the 3.0 V6 t/case = 1.925:1, 2.6 t/case = 1.944:1, 3.5 V6/2.8TDI t/case = 1.90:1
They are different part no's (I checked) but you could be right in that the 2.85 input & low range gears will fit directly but we know that the idler gear is bearing supported at each end as opposed to a shaft support for the 3.0/2.6. So the idler gear may still be 2.85 ratio but slightly different.
It also could be that the 3.5/2.8 t/case is bigger with more room to play and a lower ratio is achievable I won't know till I get it and pull it apart and do some measuring.
