I have a stock standard 2008 diesel VRX
The electric solenoid on my EGR valve has failed.

Is this a common issue??

If you read the Pajeroclub.com.au forum, you will find lots of entries on EGR failures. Go to the bank manager first before you go to Mits. There is a mod out there which apparently tricks the ECU into thinking that the outside temoperature is still fairly low, and therefore the EGR system is never called into play. All it is is a 3.7 kOhm resistor wired in series to the airflow sensor. Not sure if this would solve your problem or not. It may make the ECU never call for EGR, and this may cancel out any error messages. Hopefully I never get to that situation where the EGR solenoid fails.

When you look at the Pajeroclub forum, check out the Gen 4.3, 4.2 and 4.1 forums. There has been a lot of discussion on this topic. Also the discussion on the blanking plate for the EGR, although I guess that you have thrown a code telling you the EGR solenoid is stuffed. A worthy cheating attempt may be to find the wires connecting the solenoid, and substitute a resistor to the appropriate value (from memory, 2.4 ohms), and see if the fault clears. If it does, look at blanking off the EGR valve and you may get away with the repair and save about $459.50.

I have the resister egr mod on my 2014 challenger. Works well.

My understanding of this mod is that it still requires a working egr system to work without fault.
