Post by westy »

Hi has anybody fitted power steering to their series landies, if so, what did you use ??

I have a Ser 2B FC and would like power steering for it.

Many thanks in advance

Hi Ken, over at AULRO Bill Larman mentioned that they used to use toyota FJ boxes on series vehicles or even P38 Rangie boxes.
Either way i think you'd be better off searching on there.

Thanks Nick,
The only problem with fitting any of those later model boxes is that the box has to be mounted right at the firewall because the headlight panel is about 6" from the footwell/firewall assy.

I was thinking something along the lines of Fairlane or Holden Brougham steering ram unit

Cheers

Hi Nick,
Yep decided to go with "Rover" not jap shit, and put in a P38 box reversed to have the steering shaft point forward connecting to the angled steering gearbox then to the column uni's which is mated to a rangy collapsible column, but also had to reverse the pitman arm operatimg direction to get the wheels to turm "right" when steering wheel turned "right"

Cool, some of the FC101 guys have talked about using a nissan box as its a fairly easy near bolt in job.

Dam that sounds like a complicated option.... a 60 series cruiser box does it easily, bolts to the outside of the chassis and points forward... not certian what was done with the column... I know the Rangy/disco column would be two long as its too long in my series with a disco box, I'm guessing it was done with a toyota column

The steering box is under the front seat in a Forward Control truck so how would you get the "60 series cruiser box" to mate with a steering column further forward then the steering box ????????
