not true
bought my coily for $4500, late 97 with 150,000 kms on clock it hadnt been reguly serviced and has small dint in back and a bit of stone damage, since doing a reco on the carby, done mostly under warranty, it has gone really well on and off road. it came 2 sets of tyres standard and 29'' mud terrains and an ez-locker. the interior came up really well once I had cleaned it, it had been a smokers car but it smells fine now, the reason i got it cheap i think was a, it was dirty and b,it was a trade in at a place that only sells fast imported sports cars.
my point is that good ones are out their for the right price.
p.s this weeks melb trading post had a 99 jimny for $8000 so with prices like that round i think coily prices are coming down a bit

Hey i am thinking of selling my coilly for $5500 but not for another month though. At the moment it is a 96 chassis with 108 000 km on the clock. Has 2 inch suspension and 2 inch body lift. 30 inch dunlop a/t. extractors and 2 inch sports exhaust. When i bought it the guy had put an 84 body on it as it had been in a prang. All the interior including the cool white dial gauges had been all swapped over, the chassis is stiil perfect but have aquired a few dents myself and have a perfectly good rust free black body, that has really good paint that i am going to swap onto it in the next couple of weeks. After this is done the spook will look perfect. Has been a very competent little truck.
all 'BARRED' up

TOYZUKI 96 coily zook,lux diffs, 3 inch suspension lift,3 inch body lift, 33'sMTRS,series 4 hopper,power steer,twin air lockers,4 LINK front and rear,2 inch spacers(GOT WIDTH)
coily is much more cumfitable ride
they just need a bit more modds and they can be just as good as leefys maby better,
they do have there weaknesses as i have found out

That is rubbish that coilys are more comfortable than leaf sprung. the ride is the same, a swb gives you a choppy ride no matter what. They have major problems with the suspension design that seriously restricts what mods you can do, also problems with availability of gears unless you swap an early model t/case in so you can run rockhoppers. Front diffs won't accept any readily available diff locks.
Buy NAMs soft top for $2000, get a rockhopper fitted for $1300, weld the rear and buy a front air locker $1200, put rear springs all round preferably 2.5" old Man Emu $800, get a set of 34" swampers $1200, 2" bodylift $??? and you'll have change from $7000.
Factor in some labour costs for the rear springs up front, depends on who you know and what you can do yourself

I voted Leaf sprung for the same reasons as Big Steve and Grimbo, plus, Coilers only come with fixed windscreens (even on the soft tops), so if you damage the windscreen surround - the whole body is toast... Or at least in great need or repair.
A mod that would be worth hunting down on a car that you buy could be an engine swap over to a 1.6 Vitara (pref EFI) - this would save you a lot of moo-lah in the long run, as would existing lockers, gearing etc...

I have owned a coily from new and found the suspension to be total shit from day one , I cant beleive a company like suzuki could get it so wrong on there final model sierra, it only takes a new set of springs & shocks to make it feel and work much much better and even out perform a leafy with similar SMALL & BASIC mods and I would be very happy with the car if that was the end of the story BUT it seems its not, I have read about and talked to lots of coily & jimny owners who bend or break the radius arms and/or the mountings without really punishing them . The design also limits the amount of mods and lift that can be done to the original coil system. So I think a leafy is the better option if you only want to do basic mods and have it strong and reliable, but if you really want to build a serious truck both leafy's & coily's original suspension gear will be totaly removed and replaced with custom made systems of your choice , most tuff sierras you see don't have anything original left in the suspension or driveline ,so take your pick.
I thought anything post 96 is coil?...what i will do is wait and see what comes available...i want the right one... no..im not buying Nams.. why does every one keep telling me to buy nams....?anyway....who knows what him and tonka get up to in it ....
...the way things are sounding i think i'll be heading towards leaf sprung unless someone can give me some real advantages of owning a coily...if I find anything with EFI thatd be nice... a 1.6 coneversion would be good...as long as they arnt a hassle to insure...is there a link where all the suzuki kids put up pics and details? even daihatsu has a owners sticky you know...

97 and onwards is coils i believe.
Nam's zook was sold a few weeks ago anyways, so I'm not sure why people are still trying to help him sell it.

K now your scaring me...I did notice though when Ryan bent his arm it was on an average climb, i watched it kinda bounce and hit one wheel on a rock and the other went in a hole....I think thats where he done it? I took the same line and mine was fine...I want it to be reliable, the whole point is to save some money, & I dont like breaking things so leafy sounds good...
Did they make leaf models up to 99?

no coilys only after 4/96, I was thinking of selling the coily for a leafy but figured Id only end up cutting all the original spring & shock mounts off to fit yj jeep springs or similar set up to the leafy so i may as well keep the coily as iv had it from new & like the dash & front end style ,and I can always do the same to the coily & cut all the mounts off and start again, just waiting to see the overkill coil kit and see whats involved to fit that up to the coily , $2500 might fix the problems for good.ferog wrote:nelligen wrote:I have owned a coily from new and found the suspension to be total shit from day one , I cant beleive a company like suzuki could get it so wrong on there final model sierra, it only takes a new set of springs & shocks to make it feel and work much much better and even out perform a leafy with similar SMALL & BASIC mods and I would be very happy with the car if that was the end of the story BUT it seems its not, I have read about and talked to lots of coily & jimny owners who bend or break the radius arms and/or the mountings without really punishing them .
