Series 3

Post by xtreem »

When you buy a series 3 rockcrawler gear set do you get the counter shaft and bearings and gaskets with it? All the american sites come with these but on the local sites it just shows the gears and nothing else. Anybody know what the go is?

I don't mean the whole rebuild kit Steve, Just the counter shaft and needle bearings. So do you guys just put the gears in with the original Suzuki bearings and shaft or what?

You may not need a new countershaft, the only way to know for sure is when you pull it out, if the shaft looks at all rough (the hardening has been worn off) .. you will need a new one ..

It is a good idea to do bearings etc while you have it apart ...

Ok guys my series 3 is in and is awesome for fixing my onroad gearing (5th gear is back) But I must say i'm a little dissapointed with the off road drivability. It is great for engine braking and down hills but I don't really see much benefit in tackling hard obsticles at slower speed, I find if I try the hard big rocky hills at the slower speeds I just lose traction, (no momentum) So it just seems like I am hitting the things at the same speed now but in a higher gear. Do I just need to learn how to use it? changing my driving style?

I just remember everyone saying if you get the series 3 you won't have to charge in to things as hard anymore. And it will be less wear on the car.

The way I am seeing it at the moment is that it will be the perfect package when I get the 2 lockers (4 wheels driving = less dependant on momentum) but at the moment (unlocked) isn't really effective.

That was one of the concerns and comments we made initially, it does effect wheel speed which can be a problem in certian circumstances. Long steep low traction climbs or descents like in Gregs video thread. It does involve a change in driving style and attitude.

and the lockers are needed, too, or gearing alone wont work, like you say, you will still need to charge over obstacles, you can slow down once locked up :)

I have the front one now, but probably won't fit it until I get the rear one and get the compressor at the same time.
