both front shackle mounts have stress fractures.
should i just weld them up? :shock:

Not much point in just welding em up without any preperation first.. all you are doing is covering up the cracks and expecting the covering weld to be as strong as the original....... doesnt happen !

Grab a grinder and remove as much as possiable of the original weld that is cracked.

Then Reweld it.

the same thing happend to mine, i took it right of and rewelded it and then strenghend the rest of them by welding 5mm plate on to them, havent hade any problems since.

yeah same thing happened to mine... but out @ lost city and the shackle came clean off. :bad-words:

As V8Patrol said prep it up 1st, the see if you can weld a box section over the new weld to offer more strength again. From memory factory is only a c section so welding plate to the 4th side will beef it up big time

Did you weld it or get the right man for the job dont forget you were told to strengthen it or buy a GQ chuchy

:x :x :x :x The factory job of so called securing the brakets is like using BLUE TAK instead of AROLDITE.....
Grind the pathetic "COCKY CRAP" from bothe sides and get a good BOILY< to do a TWO LAYER, THREE RUN on the section and it wont budge ever again.
On that same note, be very carefull of those rear greasable shakle pins, i've gone back to the originals because the aftermarket, greasable ones seem to have a habit of failing bacause they do not radius their bolts, thus creating a very weak suspension piont...CORIGATION FRENZY.. :roll: :roll: :roll: :roll:

After reading this i thought that i better go and have a look at my shackles and sure enough one of them has a crack. I was thinking this might be a good time to reverse shackle it has any one done this and did they notice much inprovement.

Seen em done before and the ppl that do it swear black n blue its the best ..... but you always get that reply because no-one ever like to admit it was wrong !!!

There's a tad more involved in it if you are going to do it properly too I might add........ the front drive willl need modding aswell and this willl cost you big $$$ The slip joint isnt long enuff for a shackle reversal when its fully flexed up...... you run the risk of the front drive actually becoming 2 pieces !!! ( seen this .... not pretty ! ).

Biggest advantage is you will bever break a top leaf again ....... but how many ppl do you know who have broken 1 so far ???
I've broken 2 in my rig and both times is was because I was jumping the rig like the below pic.

why not just use a aftermarket custom driveline? Super nice top of the line shiat only runs $500-700. I am also thinking of going with reverse shackle, another big adavtage to me is....you can build a custom front skids that will tie into the solid front leaf perch. Similar to those seen on a Volvoa C303. This will allow you to slide the front end up many things such as logs, vertical embankments and such. Big adavantage in my book and instant protection of the front end.

mate has done the hackle reversal in his MQ diesel, he did find under full compression on 33's the tire hits the rear of the front guard, i think with the MQ front springs the centre locating bolt is offset to one end, so if you rotate the springs it will push your diff further forward, this may give you issues with the tirehittin the front of the front guard. just another note, i believed he used a front driveshaft out of a 5 speed or something to compenate for the extra lenght required, (not actually sure, will find out)

got the right man for the job (bigpig) had a couple of :drinking: & bought a GQ LWB Mav, so we are now the proud owners of 2 rigs :D :D :armsup:
