aftermarket turbo on a 2.8D lux

Post by De-lux »

g'day all, im very new to this site.

firstly, i have a 93 dual cab hilux (180000kms) with the usual mods. as common with most of the 2.8's they seriously lack power. im looking to put a turbo in it. does anyone know what it will cost for me to put it all in while running about 10psi boost? and if its worth it, or am i better saving up and buying a truck that is already turbo'd.

any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I recently put a dts turbo kit on my lux, same engine, but had 60 000 on clock after rebuild. Got kit 2nd hand off the For Sale secton on this site for $1500 :D , and spent a similar amount getting the injectors and pump cleaned / serviced / recalibrated. Before the service it drove well, but after the service it was like I'd didn't even have a turbo there b4. Also built a 2 1/2 inch straight through exhaust for it. Goes amazingly well, same economy unless you enjoy the extra power and use your right foot accordingly.
It sounds like a lot of money, but still came in a 1000 or 2 less than new, and I plan on keeping the car for a while, until the turbo's isn't enough and I get a lexus v8 :D :D

I put a second hand turbo off a 2.4ltr surf onto my old 2.8 diesel hilux, cost me $800 for turbo and another $600 getting it fitted and a 2.5inch exhaust. It made a huge difference, I think the only mod that had to be done was two holes had to be tapped for the exhaust manifold.

i like that idea... i went to motsons performance on the weekend, they quoted me $5100 for everything, and to safeley run 10psi boost. thats about $2500 more than i wanted to spend. prolly only 3K tops. whats the deal with getting one off a surf?? how easy is that? i like that idea very much.

cheers for the info team.

I rang around a few wreckers until I found one, got it checked over before I handed over the cash and the rest is history!!!
