Vitara Motor Life
Vitara Motor Life
Okay,
I know that every engine has a different life based upon how well the owner cared for it etc...
But what i would like to know is - how many k's is the generally accepted life of a Vitara Motor?
i.e. a sierra engine does about 160 to 180 before it starts to die (generally)... what is the go with a vitara?
Thanks in advance,
Greg

Vitara engines
The engine I just pulled outa my Vitara to rebuild, due to a mechanical failure, not wear, has done 279,000km.
Gotta say that's doing ok, considering they all seem to get the conrod bearing rattles from about 150,000 upwards (which, in reality is only a $30 set of bearings anyway...)

I had 200,000 on mine when I killed it... they can live for many more miles (had 180 compression on remaining 3) but about 50k's with a cylinder on 10 psi and a huge oil leak is about the safe limit
For $1800 I'd be wanting the starter motor too... not much more will get you a 16V halfcut so you can get P/S and A/c too
My carby one was about 1/2 that but bare... most wreckers up here wanted $1100 for a bare EFI 16V engine

Vitara motors
No probs Greg.
Oh, by the way, the engine I pulled out has had the car all over Australia. It's done very little of those km's buzzing around suburbia.
I would agree... prolly $1500, but I'd take the compression tester along & ask to borrow the rattle gun for a few minutes for the crank bolt...
If it's warranted, and you plan on fitting it fairly quickly, so you can have a listen to it, that might be OK. I'd prefer to hear it running tho.
Hope it's still in the donor car.

Why not sell me yours Damo - we all know that you've only clocked up 2k's on it from driving up and down your drive way in the few years you've had it.
I'll even throw in a little bit of extra moo-lah for the chrome dipping you've done to it.

Rev limiter !! whats that
Ahh you must be talking about valve bounce ... or oil pump cavitation ... (its funny when you hear the bottom end getting noisy at real high sustained RPM cos the oil is mostly in the top half of the motor) ..

Lads,
I think this thread is heading towards sourcing an engine, so heres my 2cents worth. If it's not then dont worry about this dribble.
I got an engine for my feroza when I last needed one from Just Japanese Parts Plus in Lansvale Sydney. It was guaranteed to have done no more than 60,000kms. It cost just on $1200 delivered.
It came with a 12 month warranty that has been tested twice now, one a small oil leak and the other a big one that saw the rear main replaced in two days! Very happy so far.
