drop shackles

what are peoples thoughts on drop shackles? What brands are better? What is needed to be done to the steering if installed in the front? Are they legal in victoria?

Camskizook used to have them on front and rear

but he dosent have them anymore ;)

have looked into them a bit and have decided against them. Too expensive and not legal for victorian road use. Will go for a set of extended shackles and maybe a future spoa. Dont like the thought of them opening up when your not expecting them to on cross slopes. maybee on a dedicated comp truck but not a family weekend warrior.

I used to worry about my revolvers opening up on side hills, and heavy braking. They don't. It's a myth. M/L's may be different, but not my weevolvers. If you drive off cambers that are THAT off camber, well I take my hat off to you dude.
And I think, IMHO, that they are safer for legality purposes than a SpOA. (Puts on flame suit, gas mask and helmet)
I have 11" travel shocks in front and am using it all (almost) but that's the plan, leave a little shock travel free to save the shocks. 1/2 " each end I guess.

Sorry Luigi I have run drop shackles and SPOA .. the "drop shackles" were just plain fawking scary.
You dont need "gimicks" like revolvers etc to get oodles of travel LJ extreme was maxing out 12 inch travel shocks with Old man emu leaves and slightly extended shackles .. and no weird handleing quirks.
I have seen plenty of video's of vehicles equipped with "multi piece" shackles (revolver, Missing Link, Climax etc) proving that they allow way more spring wrap and uncontrolled articulation.
A Normal shackle allows the spring to only move in a smoothe arc and will not allow the spring eye free vertical movement when loaded up, thus helping prevent axle wrap or traction killing wheel hop ..
Go with a slightly longer shackle, with good springs and possibly some form of torque rod/arm ... it will handle predictably (cant say will handle well) and provided you do it well you should have no issues passing an engineers report.
