Good Value Spotties
Hey Guys,
I know i should just go buy some LF 170's but they are quite expensive and dont really use em enough to justify spending heaps on spotties. So just after some opinions on some good value spotties that you have used. For instance looking at the Narva Ultima 175.
Cheers

if you cant justify payin good $ for good items, you certainly cant justify paying good $ for shit ones.
You will regret paying anything for cheap shit ones that will break, viabrate apart, have crap light, pay for what you get..

Nah, don't take advice like this too seriously. The Narvas are awesome for the money paid. You can get 175's for about $125 from Repco. Click HERE for a current thread on overlander about this topic.
Cheers
There was a comparo a while back in one of the magazines and the Ultimas won for light output and distribution. That test included a set of Lightforces......
I've got a set of normal Narvas and reckon they're really good. They give out a decent light (over 300m) and at least if some scum knocks them off I haven't lost mega dollar lights.

Few months before the opposition magazine had a light test... Lightforce won, and narva lost.. Both follwed the tests by 2 page spread adverts, + you could WIN a set if you subscribed to the magazines...
Now you see why I dont buy magazines anymore?
Yes, you have to wonder sometimes about comparo tests.
It would also be very hard to give any scientific measurements or justification for which light is best- it all comes down to whatever the "judge" thinks is best......
Maybe the test I saw took price into consideration too? I think it was Overlander magazine that did it - I saw it in the local library ages ago and had a quick read.

Out of the cheaper lights i have ever used, i have used Nightstalker 225's before in a Spotlight style, they worked pretty good, and couldn't complain for the price.
But the best value light i have gotten were the LF 170's i currently have, all you need to do is get your dad to buy a new truck, and have him take them off and replace them with a set of Bull Lights.

LF kick arse in the brightness department but best bang for buck is Narva.

i hate to sounds like another LF groupie, but the 170s have gotta be one of the best things i've ever bought for my 4by. they are fully immersable (sp? ie: can get wet), you can adjust the beam for spread or spot, the are really really bright, they handle being flicked on and off really well, and are really strong - no signs of stress from being bounced around all the time.
the interchangeable lenses are awesome too. no chance of cracking them, they'll even prolly survive a head on... insanely strong... seen a guy belting them with a hammer, only minor discolouration. can get a spreader beam so u get a real wide light, or colours (red, blue, yellow...), and my fav - the full dispersion lense: spreads the light really well so u don't get a focused point, but good light for almost 180 degrees. best thing for night runs over obstacles...
and no, i don't work for lightforce, lol.

It's the one on the right, Dammit !!!
4WD Monthly gave the Nightstalkers a good wrap. Particularly, best value for money.
I have personally seen them on 2 different rigs and they leave my Cibie Oscars for dead
I don't reckon it would hurt as much if someone knocked off my $100 lights rather than my $500 lights. Plus, $100 lights are less likely to be targeted.
And I figure unless you are doing 200km/hr, why do you need lights that replicate the sun rising They dont help me when I am rock crawling
Dan
BTW - I just threw in that last point because I am jealous that I can't afford LF

GOOD light for value of money. They have an absolute shit mounting system which when got rusty and i needed to remove them as some lowlife c*nt tried to pinch them and they were loose (had locknuts on em) and turned them with the key to find that the the whole bolt and nut rotated together - basically a stuffed mount which required the grinder to come out and the light went in the bin.
Not happy.. but Ive settled for lightforces for now

Oh and I thought it was because your eyesight was deteriorating due to recreational habits...
I'll stand by a lux meter reading and side by side comparo anyday or night as the case maybe... Yours sincerely the 3rd Gunman
