New rig for modification???

I am about to sell my 90 Hilux and want opinions on what to buy next

Bear in mind that this isn't going to be daily driven and possible not even registered and I don't want to go to finance for it. I want something that I can buy cheap and work from there to suit my budget.

If you are considering no rego then a Tube Buggy is the way to go.

But out of your list i would go for either a Soft top sierra or an 83-88 hilux.

Zooks are cheap, and heaps of shiat out there for em... would be a good option.

But if you have a lux now with gear on it, strip the good bits and put onto a new cheaper one...

I simply want a truck that I don't have to rely on to get to work on monday mornings after a big weekend and one that is worth as much that hasn't got shiny panels to crimple. I would like to eventulally look at competition but that would certainly take an amount of time to set up and pay for too. I am leaning towards one of the zooks myself, I have a lj50/80 in mind that I know I can pick up cheap but after seeing the zook of Climax suspensions at the 4wd show I thought that looked great and had a bit more space.

I know, it was crap and waay too highly priced. His front diff breather was snapped off and I thought I'd let him know . his reply "It doesn't go off road anyway". Funny shit.

for a project i reckon an LJ80 would be sweet.. just look at kermit!!

lwb zook might be a bit better for some stuff tho, cos it's a bit longer... also lots of room in the back for a huge esky

i've dealt with the dude that built that zook at the show u were talking 'bout.. he's sooooooooooo dodgy, would never get him to do any work for me

I went with the LWB Zook, cheap car, easy to get parts and fairly easy to match other parts into with a bit of bootie fab engineering.

I added LWB after speaking with redzook this morning, I am leaning toward one of the three zook's. My question is, to run hilux axles under them is there a huge amount of mod needed, are the spring perches on the hilux axles far out board of where the springs are mounted on the zooks???

ok you are worried if the hilux spring pads don't match up yet say major modification buildup is what you want to do. Which is it. Changing spring pads is not major in most peoples eyes but if it is in yours you need to really sit down and work out how much of the mods you can do yourself.

Confucious is correct here But still a LWB is a good base

I would suggest buying one and welding the rear diff, 31's BL etc. Very basic mods that will get you around ok. If you have the ability to do more then cool as

very cheap. LJ body next to nothing. LWB Sierra frame $500, MQ diffs $600 + welding, Vitara engine g/box & t/case $1500, sierra t/case $250, Hilux rear springs used $200, 36" swampers used $1200. TYou could build this for under $7 000. If you did all the work yourself

the shock mounts broke not once but twice
the Z-bar Snapped
the shocks were set up on that step of an angle they didnt really even work
they were setup so when i was off road they both hit the fuel tank

All I am doing is simply asking a few questions, I was wondering if by a fluke they nearly mated up. I'm not scared off by moving them, juss wishful thinking. To me this will be a longterm or at least a proper build up, not slapped together like some are. Sorry to ask a bit too much Grimbo, but its my thread and this is exactly what it is here for.
