Insuring the big beasties

Post by -Nemesis- »

Hey guys,

I'm having trouble finding the right info here. I currently own a mildly modded RV6 4Runner, but future plans include a 1UZ-FE and possibly a SAS etc.
I'm just wondering who you guys use to insure these trucks for what they're worth? The only place i found so far is Just Car Insurance who will insure it with a good premium, but it's only for the vehicles market value bog standard ($13k) and obviously doesn't cover any unmapped roads.
Any advice much appreciated.

ps Also, are there any good clubs or groups out Western Sydney way for when my toy is done?

If your a club memeber then check out TCIS also check out the mob that ARB an agent for

both have policies aimed at 4x4's that get used ie generous mod allownces and cover for all gazetted tracks in Australia

Ahh ok, so you need to be in a club. I kinda figured that might be the case........ Is it any 4WD club?
Thanks for that.

The club must be affiliated with the National body - Australian National Four Wheel Drive Council (ANFWDC)

Go here -> http://www.tcis.com.au/html/fourwheel_index.htm

Perhaps I can help.

I'm a motor insurance specialist. I insure cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc. but not 4B's.

Try Insurance Australia Advisernet in Cooperoo.

Their number is 07 3397 5511.

They insure Jap imports and modified 4b's. They insure quite a few Dakar/Bush Rangies which are mongrells to get cover on.

Good luck.
Cheers,

Zuffen

TCIS have sought of lost the plot, the last 3 cars that ive queried getting insurance for they wont touch.

Anything with a motor conversion they no longer want to now about, i know that this is the case if the vehicle is insured in nsw.

2 of the vehicles are extensively modded, my comp cruiser, 6.2v8 dsl, GQ diffs coils, 6 point cage, 39 swampers & my brothers suzi, 2.4dsl, lux diffs, 5sp & twin tranies & coil overs with 38 swampers. They would not touch either vehicle because they had engine conversions even tho they are both engineered & regod.

The 3rd car they refused is my tow car. Factory turbo 80 with 6/7" coils, 35's on 10" rims once again engineered & regoed in NSW. They would not insure as the suspension lift was too wild according to the new company that underwrites there policies.

All this from the insurance company/broker that is suposeably tailered to the requierements of the 4wd clubs, i may also add that i have 60% protected no claim bonus from my last vehicle insured thru TCIS.

I ended up using Australian 4wd Insurance (1800 800 471) they would cover all vehicles mentioned above on & off road and in comps with all mods, however they are not cheap!!!

That's interesting cos after viewing their site they say they will insure with no limit on modifications so long as it's roadworthy!
I emailed some other mob before though i can't remember names, they said they would cover it so long as it was converted to another motor of the same manufacturer! How stupid is that. I guess the 1UZ-FE would count as Lexus is Toyota.....

Shannons wont do 4b's

Bloke from 4wd association was at our club meeting tonight.. he mentioned a new place in Dandenong thats doing 4wds.

Affinity is the company.. worth checking..

TCIS have lost the plot, they MAY find you insurance for a highly modded car, they maynot

I'm extremely impressed with that - you're telling me that if you roll it in a comp they'll pay out.

I'd hate to think what your premium is like to get that sort of coverage!
Apparently people think I'm too patronising (that means I treat them like they’re stupid).

I just had a quote for my GQ. 3" coils, 2" BL, etc blahblah, and teh premium was 600. Queried about larger tyres, and they said yeah your covered.

I'm going to try again in a few months and put in 5" coils with 36's, just to see what happens.

The only thing that sht me was the website clearly states monthly premiums available for all new members, but then I got told that this company (the underwriter) wouldn;t do monthly payments. False Advertisng I think its called

Mate i have asked this exact Q a few times.

the other day someone gave me the number of a place with a 1300 number in Melb.

they were very helpful. im trying to dig up the number mate.

the only drama i had is im not quite 25. but they were sweet with mods and they were HEAPS cheaper then shannons (im with now) and TCIS blow goats! i found them not helpful at all, and just as expensive as shannons.

insurance

Post by DIRTY ROCK STAR »

Here is the bit i looked up, from AJFEROZA

Give DGA (Australian 4wd Insurance) a call: 1800 800 471

They're in Melbourne.....cheaper than TCIS in Adelaide: 08 8278 7000

Both will cover you on and off road.

Cheers,

This might be a bt of a stupid question as I view this in different ways. But does roadworthy also mean legal in your state??

My truck is deffinetly road worthy in a saftey sense, however it is illegal in QLD due to rims/tyres and 3" bodylift.

So do you think I would or would not be covered under there terms? I'm guessing probably not??

correct, you rig must be road worthy in the eyes of the rta etc, you can have everything engineered etc etc and the car regoed but if your rims are to wide etc, it just give them an excuse not to pay out.

Yes they will as long as it is old enough. Shannons in QLD gave me a quote on my 1968IIA - and the guy giving me the quote had a nissan patrol insured with them.

About 3 years ago Shannon's quoted me on my Paj - too expensive was the only problem, which is why I went TCIS.

As long as a terrorist doesn't blow it up, or God doesn't smite it (by having a terrorist blow it up?) I'm covered.

Or is a state of war is declared by the government, then everyone loses their insurance cover. Wonder if that includes the war on terrorism???
