What is the difference between a BJ/FJ 40 tub and a 42 ub?

I don't think there's a lot of difference except the year of manufacture - and some cosmetics.

little difference at least between the late model 40s and the 42s. The ealier 40s had a different floor under the seats to accomodate the fuel tanks.

Also i think the trans tunnel might be a bit different to accomodate the 5speed and shifter locations on the late 42 as opposed to the 40.

bj40 has 3.0 litre B motor, drum brakes, 42 has 3b 3.4 litre, disk brake front, there are frame differences (42 is substantially stiffer), 42's had (possibly optional 5 speed), optional LX spec with cloth seats, optional air cond, triple wipers, different springs, other minor cosmetic differences.

I don't know that there is any such thing as a FJ42. I don't think there is but I could be wrong.

basically it is the last 4 years:

BJ/FJ40 up until 1980
BJ42, 1980-1984

FJ/HJ 60 also came as HJ/FJ62 series'
hands and mums dont count!!!

the BJ are all Diesel, whilst the FJ are petrol. BJ 40 has the 1B, and the 42 has the 3b

There was an FJ42. It was a 2 wheel drive model. Seriously.

I notice you are from pakistan. possibly there could be other small cosmetic differences between AUST and PAK.

but i wouldnt know...

they are all very similar beasts by all accounts!

post 79 there were different floors, with the fuel tank being under the seat in the pre 79's. also post 79 had a squarer bezel
