Re-packing the hubs

Run a search, hard to find what I want, so sorry for asking again.

The 8mm allen key bolts work their way loose. So want to remove the hubs, clean things up and repack em. I have been told to use engine oil, but it leaks. Not that it is a problem.

Whats the general consensus in doing looking after your hubs?

i supose just to undo it every few 1000km's re-pack em with a good decnt grease

with the bolts working loose theres stuff you can get lock tight/ lock nut
different grade's

i packed the hubs on the QEE axles under m junk 2day and found that if the grease u use is 2 thick or tacky it wont allow the hubs 2 lock properly coz of the suction it gets wen trying 2 push in onto the lockin mechanism..

in the end i just put in some oil and a smear of cv grease

If you want to do the whole thing, re-pack CV's with Moly Grease but use wheel bearing grease for the small needle roller bearing in end of the stub axle. Dont 'over-pack' the wheel bearings-just enough to cover bearings and a small amount on cups--and just smear a SMALL quantity on the clutch teeth only for the free wheel hub. Too much here can cause the hub to not engage properly.

I dont know if seals in front end are good enough to run oil without leaks. However it has been run successfully in the rear wheel bearings.

Hubs or HUBS.
The freewhellin hubs need light smear of grease on splines and a little oil on cap and rotating internal bit.
The wheel bearing HUBS use HTB grease.
CV use moly.

use grease instead of oil, i use HTB in mine, fill the c/v's to the max, but make sure the hub isn't over filled
