just cut my chassis

i just cut ~600mm off my chassis so it is in line with my street 35's. should be good wit h my 38.5's on. only problem is that with an extra cab there's no room for my spare, as i wanted to place spring retention shafts through the centre of my coils up through the tray about 600 long with small coils around them. anyone got better spring retention ideas - cones any good. aiming for about 6 feet fo flex in the rear (once my fronts finalized) cheers

not sure if this would work but try to get a spongy material thats slightly smaller than the coil and try to affix it to the chassis some how but are you saying that your spring retension shaft will be sticking through the bonnet 600mm if it is is your rear spring be dropping out of its seat close to 600mm as well this might be a bit difficult to keep the spring in photos would be good if you come up with something

i'v been using cones for about three years... no prob with the cones but i have broken the steel coil holding strap on the last cape york trip.
the cones have been in for 55000k's and have done quite a few comps , 2 trips to cape york and a simpson desert trip and seem to be the most reliable way of doing it.
tried metal links and seatbelt type straps with no luck.

just clamp the coils in top and bottom. un restrained droop is only good for posing and/or dropping your vehicle on its side. if you clamp the coils in you'll be amazed at how much more stable your truck will be with the unsprung weight pulling down on it when it is twisted up.

hence the shafts with springs above as per my current design, making the droop restrained. cheers

thanks fellas. not sure if there is a real benefit to coilovers, but if there is a reason i want to find it, happy to use what works.

cable design would work, perhaps winch cable and a steel roller/s +nylon guide. would be different apart from that copyright logo i would have to put on the side

i guess that inner spring method would work, but if i made it long enough it mat effect bump travel, as well as the coils binding if i use big enough coils

Do it differently like the Scorpion rear end on the Ibex in 4x4monthly a little while age.
Fix the spring at the lower end and modify the top mount so it is a guide/slide rather than a fixing point and as the spring comes back up it slots into place.
