Flares Delima
Flares Delima
Gooda
I have finally got my SWB patrol back from a total respray and i am piecing back together and i can not decide what to do about the flarse and mud flaps. I have the factory flares and would like to use them again but the car when i purchased it has got offset 8" rims with 31" BF Muddies and on full flex rips the flares off. I have seen the flares that can be purchased that have the wire running through them but over time they look like crap. I have noticed looking at pics most people have aftermarket flares, why is this??? If i purchase 8" rims that are not offset and run muddies should they be fine. I am also running a 2" lift if that alters things
Thanks chris

Did your truck originally have 31's and factory flares? I run 35x12.50's with 8in offset with my original factory flares and mudflaps. The mudflaps needed a bit of modifying to make them flexible but the fact flares dont hit. They are expensive to replace when broken though. The bushwacker flares work fine if the stiffening wire is installed properly. With proper bending of the wire, they can be made to the same shape as fact flares. Black boot polish seems to work fine when the shine goes off.

Unless you go stiffer springs so that it doesn't flex as much a spring lift won't do shiat. If you think about it the upward travel will still be the same cos the bumpstop is the limiting factor therefore the tyres will still find your flares. Just get the body chopped, easier than a body lift, can look good if done right and more stable car than a bodylift because it is lower.
