Just wanting to know if anyone can tell me the open lenght of a long travel rancho on the rear of a GQ and if there is any other option for a long travel shock

the shock length has to be less than your springs length to make sure the spring doesnt fall out.
i have fixed my springs in position and use a shock that is too long

there are several shocks that will fit but first you have to measure your captive length.

yea I did they all 4 shit themselves 2 times.. once within 3 mths. Go with the OME's Bazzle suggested.

BTW i have been running the same 9014/9012 rancho's for 5 years and two cars... they have done 3 cape york trips, 2 simpson desert trips and several comps and were still working fine when i changed them for new ones yesterday.
now running 99017/9012 rancho's and heading to the cape tonight

I originally had adj Rancho's but when i looked at the new 99000 series the quality of the units was not good enough the welds on the eye's were cracked from new and the eye's were constructed from a piece of rolled flat bar and not even round. Thats when i started look further and I now run Bilstiens front and rear 12' travel (14' and 16' also available) they have to be stripped down to revalved (tune the compression and rebound), the quality and service is tops (Quadrant Suspensions). Im using the 5000 series offroad racing with hiem type ends the only disadvantage is they are of monotube construction (good heat dissipation) but you need to protect them from impacts. Also at $360 each they aren't cheap. Ive got OME LTR's on the missus TD 80 series and they work a treat but keep in mind you need to drive fast for the suspension to work there not cheap either at ~$350 each but they have been on over 3 year's with no probs. keep in mind that i believe they only come in strokes of up to 10' which is a conservative long travel shock.

I run ranchos, 5 position adjustables, on my 80 series and the first set did fall in a heap but that was due to them being too short and jumping my 4b off washouts!!! Now I have had the right length ones in for over a year of some hard driving they have stood up well.
Also when you go the longer ones they come with a beefed up shaft and the top pin mounts are a larger diameter.

OME N19L and N29L are $139 each from ARB but i'm hoping to get them a little cheaper at the Brisbane 4x4 show this weekend.
I still think some of the problems with the rancho's is that peole are buying the shock out of the catalog based only on the open/closed lengths. But dont worry about the fact that they are putting a Jeep shock on a patrol or cruiser, which are much heavier due to the way there wieght is distributed. So valving is out of wack.
But then again I havnt heard of many problems latley.

OME N29L eye to eye 716 open 426 closed
May need to add ~20mm to bump stop space.
Check on whatever shock you use that when spring fully compresswd that shock still has down travel and on ext that spring wont fall out of seat.
can run N73L on front but susp towers etc will need lifting taking away some of the gain 667 open 381 closed (80 series front)
