do you have the brakes engaged in soft sand or disengaged?

Couple of years ago towed a disabled vehicle 12km along Stockton Beach to Anna Bay. Was running 18psi but got stuck in some reallly soft stuff and had to go down to 15psi. Stokton sand is considered much softer than Fraser which I did about 6 years ago. It does depend on conditions. The biggest problem I found on Fraser was ground clearance in the wheel ruts left by the Unimogs.

I kept my trailer brakes disengaged to prevent the trailer going sideways on a sloped hill when goin in high tide when braking

one more question, with the loading of gear... is is better to have a heavy trailer and light tow vehicle or lighter trailer and heavier tow vehicle? i personally would prefer lighter trailer but keen to hear your suggestions?

Load most of th eheavy stuff in the car. and keep the trailer light weighted and distrubite the load evenly in the trailer to prevent one side being heavier than the other if possible.

As not to have trailer 'sink' into the sand when towing. As a car can be driven out due to drive on all four wheels whereas trailer doesnt.

Good luck mate.

between 50 to 70 is reasonable.

It depends on your towball rating.

From knowledge most are like 90 kgs maximum.. so 70 isnt too bad. still good.

From memory it should be about 10% of the loaded trailer weight

Mate the missus and I towed our Jayco Outback up to Waddy Point in sept 2003 with our Patrol and had no probs, if u travel at low tide and drive on the hard sand u should have no dramas.
Just take your time and your Toyota should do it ok.
