MK Patrol 4.625 Rear Diff with Air Locker

Post by MKPatrolGuy »

Debating whether to shell out the extra bickies and swap in a GQ rear diff into my MK when I get the suspension done.

Just wondering what my current diff would be worth and no I wouldn't be interested in separating the locker.

Ive looked into the mod of a GQ rear diff,
If u put a GQ rear diff in:
1. are u going to still run leaves?
2. how are u going to solve the problem of the MK transfer being offset to the drivers side and the GQ rear diff being in the centre?
3. u will then end up with a wider track in the rear, how are u going to compensate in the front??

To answer your question though, im selling my rear diff housings brake to brake with good 4.6's in em in good nick for $150.
Lockers are worth about $1100 and urs is second hand.

I would pay about $1000 for the whole rear diff with locker.

Screwy,

It's not a huge problem if you have a wider track on the rear than the front. Better that than two "narrow tracks"... or if you only had two wheel spacers are you going to fit them both on the left, right, front... i'd pick the rear personally

1. Going A-frame 3 link rear and eventually 5 link front.

2. Offset t/case isn't a prob, tailshaft will just be on a bit of an angle. My Patrol isn't very tall and has very little angle between the unis vertically.

3. Not going to worry about difference in width at the moment. Will swap in a GQ front when I evntually get it linked too.

Will go both GQ diffs and linked at each end. No GQ G/Box or t/case yet, will probably, in the distant future, go injected 350 and Auto with GQ t/case. When my money tree matures.

so your just going to run the standard box with the GQ rear diff? so ur drive shaft will be heading across the the drivers side a fare way.

I spose if your not very tall its not a major problem. Because i am SOA m rear diff pinion probably has a 30 degree angle on it. its quite large, your only gonna be have the same angles as me but to the left not up.
Makes no difference until u get lift that is

got ya.

Yeah mine is low, nice and stable. Going to cut more out of the guards to clear the added flex.
