High beam not working

Post by MQ SWB »

Have just bought an 1980 rangie and the high beam lever is not working, when you push it forward to the on position the head lights go out completely and when you pull it to flash nothing happens or changes, The wiring system is a bit of a mess, there are two relays/change overs 5 pin each with more things going in and out than you can poke a stick at. the car has dual batteries, dual alternators, driving lights, air compressor it was wired for a winch but the bloke sold the winch before i bought it but all the wiring is there also has air horns in there some where as well,
any help in this matter is muchly appreciated

not sure if its -neg switched or +pos switched (im assuming +pos)

check all fuses.

do you have access to a multimeter?

sounds like the relay for the hi beams is not working.

check if the relay is switching.

if it is, check if theres power to the relay from your battery.

if its not, check if theres power coming from your switch.

if theres power to your switch but not from it. get a new switch.
