Now if you think that rock crawling is only about driving around at 120:1 you need to get out more and have a look at what the rest of the world is doing.

I just want to make a point about the obstacles that will be there.
In the clips you saw a lot of Adrian and myself driving around at full noise with lots of wheelspeed. We drive like this because this is how we like to drive but in order to drive these obstacles you dont need anywhere near the wheel speed or horsepower that we are using. Beebee with his 4 cyl hilux easily drove the hardest lines there (except the one Adrian drove and he was the only one to drive that one) and if he could get his motor to run properly on a 45 degree incline would have driven everything so much more easily. Beebee has got 4.7:1 transfer gears and could drive most of the climbs in 1st gear. On a few of the bigger ledges he had to use 2nd gear and would have problems cause his motor wouldnt run properly - if he had a motor that would run on inclines (and hopefully he will) he wont have any problems on the ledges.
The courses are setup to produce incredible driving. The few spectators that we had there were totally blown away. They were totally amazed at what we could drive our rigs over.

3. As Cars, skills and number of competitors increase so must the need for more challenging terrain. There becomes a point when everyone can crawl over a Rock the size of a car, but how many can get over a rock the size of 4 cars???????????
I don't believe that anyone can say they can sit and watch a RIG SCRATCHING its way threw a PEBBLE field at 6 metres an HOUR!
Now the other thing is, the guys on the VIDEO love to drive that style, FULL THROTTLE WHEN ITS NEEDED!!!!! If you have your own style that you think is just as effective that lets see it!!!!!!!!!!
On the Vid we wanted as much full throttle as possible to get people excited!!! There was plenty of times when we took it easy and picked our way threw the rocks!!!
Redzook if you don't agree with the direction of how rockcrawling in Australia (and the rest of the world) is going than maybe YOU can get a PURE CRAWLING event started down that way.
I currently have 3 Guys from NSW that will come up here and match it up!!! They do not care how it has to be driven, how big the rocks are, how dusty it is, how much throttle to use, they are just full on wheelers that love to come up and wheel and put on one hell of a show!!

With my lux I don`t like full throttle when on rock, why? Because things CAN!!!!! happen so much quicker and damage can be a lot bigger. I have to many $$$$$ in the lux to do that to it and can not afford to trash it (I have 4 kids to feed as well as my love of 4x4ing). I will how ever use full throttle if crawling simply will not work and take the risk off coming unstuck.
Now come about 2 to 3 yrs time when I build the rig I have plained (this is when I will be able to aford another rig) I will happly drive it as hard as possible and will not care if it rolls 4 or 5 times before stopping.
Crawling has its good and bad points and times when it works and times when it doesn`t and the same goes for full throttle driving.
If you read this as me being a soft rooster then owell to bad for me, I`m over it allready

There is a place and time for both styles.
It just that with the way the terrain and difficulty of comps is going calls for more throttle more times than not!

I was pointing out that, this is not the case!!!
And if you do not agree with the style or terrain of PUOSU then maybe Australia can use another "Rock CRAWLING comp"!!!
Meening that we have designed this comp this way (in the way we see OZ EXTREME rock Crawling should go) and if you want a COMP that is more CRAWLING/Technical and suits your requirements than maybe you need to organise one yourself! It all helps in making the sport of Rock Crawling grow! I doesn't matter to me i will still come down and compete no matter what the style or terrain!!

I wouldn`t say more times then not, but what I will say is more than it used to and alot of the time you only have a very small spot to gas it. What I mean is if you gas it 100mm to soon it will not work, if you gas it 100mm to late it want work and you only have a 100mm where if you gas it in it will work. Does that make sense?
I don`t like the full throttle aproarch but sometimes you just have to and yes it is more oftne than it was.
Having been there, this was my take on the weekend..
This organisation of this event is looking to be top notch.. It's taking the best of what spectators want, what competitors want, and taking it to the next level.. I assume it's not intended as a comp for all vehicles, as most people who believe they have a capable rig will just be left scratching their heads after watching this event..
There is a blend between technical and climbs.. More of the technical driving was left out of the vid as it's slow.. POS did a wicked three point turn down there and it looks great on video, but it took 44 seconds all up, so you only see a small section of it.. The other part you might miss through the short clips is that these guys can really drive.. Some of the lines they took, the angles they got on, etc, were great to watch.. It is not just go hard and see what happens..
The terrain is excellent (and yes it's rock).. it'll make for good driving and spectating.. one area is like a natural amphitheatre and will make for good viewing..
Heavy on the agenda down there were safety, quick recoveries, keeping the action flowing, best viewing for spectators, etc.. It's been well thought out and if it runs to plan, it will be an excellent event.
If you get a chance, go and see it.. and save your constructive criticisms for after the event where they can be put to good use making the next one (if there is one) even bigger and better.. In my opinion, this will be by far the best event to spectate at out of everything on the calendar..

i agree with pos and strangerover. rockcrawling is a 'motorsport' event. just like nascar/f1/indy/supercars/nations cup etc. ......and like these events, people go to see crazy shiat and more importantly CRASHES AND CARNAGE!
everyone wants to see other people smash their own stuff, like a good roll off a dropoff, or the v8's giving each other a tap going into a corner and putting it into the wall.........think of nascar.......its boring as batsh*t, but the crashes are spectacular and thats what a lot of the crowd goes to see.

I don't think this is Shiat!
I think its great we can get all different views of what people see as rock crawling!
On that note i will also have handouts for the spectators to put down there VIEWS of the weekend at PUOSU and what they liked and what the disliked, what they want more of and what they want less of, so i don't think this subject is as silly as what you make out!!
I think that everyone should wait until they have attended the event and seen what the event was like, then give feedback.
Judging from a 2 minute video when the event will be 2 days of action is pretty premature.
I have no doubts that this will be the best even of it's kind in Australia to date, and I wish I could go. But I hope the events is still going strong in 2 years time when I am back in OZ.

Some may note from previous XRCC rounds, that the only thing that overshadows the freindly competitive nature provided by 'all' the outerlimits boys is there unwaivering concern for safety towards both fellow competitors and spectators. In the few years i have been both driving and competing as a group with these boys there has never been a safety related incident, I have been at comps where we have come to a stop in the middle of a run (and wearing the penalty) so as to 'enlighten' an official as to removing spectators off the course or to a clear area, as we are about to throttle over an object and may dislodge a rock that could cause injury.

Driving to and from is a biatch but for me it's either that, or spectating. And spectating is too frustrating. I want to drive. Hell, I want to win - but I can't see that happening again. But now I've got the bug and I'll be at every event I can get to. Sure it's not for everyone but once you try it, you'll be hooked.
