240V Air compressors.

Just wondering what people have in the way of air at home. I am looking towards buying a compressor, something about 2-3hp, 10-15cfm, 40l tank.

Has anyone bought a real cheapie... less than $250 and what was it like?

I just want to run a rattle gun, dusting gun and do small spray jobs like bars and stuff.

Any reccomendations and where did you get them?

I goit one from Bunnings for $99. Only small, will prolly run a rattle gun, have painted a trailor and suits me at home but wouldn't suit someone that uses it every day as it only a small tank, small power motor and would run nearly constintly prolly shortening its lifespan.

Check out who is auction off all of the GMC returns down you way :?:

GMC come with a 30 day money back satisfaction garentee some of this equipment has been used once for a specific job then retutrned to the shop, some have minor problems and some are stuffed

Choose carefully, no refunds or garentee's given at these auctions

We have a mob near Jimboomba that run auction on power tools every 6 weeks . at the last auctoion 24l compressors $40- $50 40l $75-$95. Prior to the auction they had a guy with a lead letting you test what ran and what didn't.

We bought 6 between us , i had to make a few minor adjustments to the pressure switch on 2 and rest ran fine. There was a bit of cosmmetic damage the odd wheel missing and a bit of cracked plastic

At present i am running a 24 and a 40 at the same time, they switch in and out at different times but i have plenty of air

Although i havent tryed to spray paint any thing big

I had a 12cu ft originally to do what you say youre going to do.

I ended up doing more, ie rattle gun, air drill, air grinder. NOT enough capacity.
Sold it and got a new 17cu ft from the Trading post with a 60l tank.
Even that doesnt always keep up.

Spent about $650

I purchased a GMC comp from bunnings not so long ago for $90, so far have used it for airing up tyres, reseating beads, running a rattle gun, and some small cleaning jobs,

This comp has served well so far, it nearly runns continously when using the rattle gun, but never got underpowered, as far as i can see it is a great unit for what i paid,

i will hopefully be respraying a 4by soon, so ill see how it goes then.

ive got a gmc 20l compressor had it about 9 months run rattle gun air tyres spraypaint works a treat the trick ive found is to undo the cover on the pressure switch and make it turn on sooner factory they switch back on at 70psi and its too low for anything really

o and buy a good 10mm airline and remove the factory air valve there incredibly restrictive
ive got mine up the back of the shed and a 20m line running up through the roof top the front stil reaches down both sides of the shed and out onto the road for those times when ya stopping at home and need some air in the tyres

My Dad has one of these compressors. How do you adjust the pressure switch and where is tha air valve that you remove? Do you have to replace it with anything else?

this will void the warantee but here goes

where the power switch is theres a sticker do not remove or warantee will be void remove it and undo the screw under it remove the cover make sure the compressor is on and you have it pressureised

under the cover theres a 10mm bolt chuck a shifter on it and open the valve on the compressor so that the air is coming out now when the pressure gets to about 85-90psi close the valve and slowley tighten(clockwise) the bolt till the compressor switches on and wait for it to recharge if your sucsessfull the overpressure valve wont blow out (you will shit yourself if it does) and the compressor will stop at about 115psi

then open the valve again and take note of what psi the compressor kicks back in

the valve is the stupid slide valve on the outlets just wack a shifter on them and undo them there really really tight i just hooked my airline straight into the conection without the valve means the airline is always pressureised but i havnt had a problem with that sofar

I bought a Regegade 16 cfm from QLD trade tools a few years ago. Its a 3cyl compressor and is basically the biggest compressor which will run on single phase power. It runs most of my air tools well except for the die grinder (only runs properly for about 30 secs) and the small sandblaster. I doubt it would run an air sander or similar.

Its been very reliable however I was a bit dissappointed to find the pump is Chinese, especially after they made a big deal about the Australian made tank and electric motor. The regulator and other bits are good quality.

Just bought one of those 40L GMC compressors $199, with the GMC accessary pack c/w spray gun $50. Tryed painting a fence with it using water based paint. Appart from the compressor running almost constantly I could not get more than a extremely light coat (ended up painting it by hand)

any thoughts should I get a different type of gun???.Also I am running a 20m, 10mm hose $40 if this makes any difference.

If you buy the gmc one and dont like it they have all the bits exept the aircon pump for you do put compressed air in you truck, the bits on one of these is what i have made mine from
