Mud in soft tops

How do you get mud out of soft tops easy with out wreckin the vinal stuff?

Take out it out of the car. My car jusrt got raped of it's carpet........hell of a lot easier to clean not to mention I now driwe a race car

Soapy water and a stiff brush???

I only run a bikini top which is more of a smooth pleather look so mud washes of with a hose, the more dense material may need scrubbing.

All that aside what are you doing with your soft top even on :cool:

Soft brush and hot soapy water, blast the big bits off with the hose first and be carefull not to scratch the windows.
Meguiar's, Mirror Glaze Clear Plastic Cleaner is a top product to remove minor scratches, they also make a polish for the same surface.

i used one of those presure things from those places with the heaps strong ones and it didnt do much
looks like im going to have to use a bit of effort to clean it

I used one step vinyl floor cleaner on my moke soft top, it not only cleans and shines, but future dirt falls off more easily. christover

As Pete said Meguiar's Mirror Glaze Clear Plastic Cleaner is great for the windows on the soft top. Clean it with soft brush etc then slowly work the windows over with the polish in small sections on both sides. When you have it clean give the soft top a spray with cooking oil or the like. it makes clean up so much easier later as the mud will just fall off, I use it on my wheels and panels when I know I'm going to get filthy

The guy that makes the Austop brand (Wayne) tells me the best thing to use to protect both the top and the plastic windows is Turtle Wax Wash and Wax. So once you've scrubbed the mud and dirt off, wash it down with the Turtle wax stuff inside and out and it'll leave a protective film once you rinse it off. Then its just a matter of washing it down regularly with the Turtle wax stuff to maintain the protective film, which is good coz it also works great on the paintwork etc.

Pyroil make a spray called "citrus spray" it comes in a black aerosole can.

Have used this quite a few times on soft tonneaus. It works like armorall but does not leave an oily film that will attract dust.

Use Armourall or Tyre Shine.
Tyre Shine doesn't attract as much dirt back onto it.
It also conditions the vinyl and stops it from deterioating.

this is all good info cus i just got a soft top for my 1.0 and its in a bad way and the windows look all fogged up

any one know of some thing to make the windows clear again

i have to scrub my soft top with a a mediun duty brush and i use jiff on it. then i armourall it. comes clean easy if i keep it armouralled

Hmm, they may be scratched in which case need to be replaced if they bother you too much.

I've always been told not to use any of those armorall type products. It does something to the canvas which makes it weaker and crack more easily etc. I'll have to find out why exactly.

check the contents of what you use on the canvas. Any thing that contains silicone is not recomended. once you start using it ya cant stop. if you stop the silicone dries out and allows it to shrink and crack. Remember what the soft dash in ya parents old falcon or commodore looked like after 10 years of ocasional use.
Its the same with polishes.

some are better than others but none are really that good.
go ask a spraypainter or detailer whats the best to use and most will just tell ya warm soapy water
