hrm could be a crack in the filter mounting then? you using the right filter?

is the oil leaking from the filter mounting itself or from the oil cooler underneath?

I'm just fishing.

oil

Had a similar prob on a 2.4. It ended up being the bypass valve in the filter body/pump bit on the side of the motor, just below the oil filter, being clogged with old oil and crud. Blew three o'rings on three oil filters before finding the prob. Just a thought... The o'ring is the weakest bit of the system.

hrm maybe the pressure relief valve in the oil pump is jammed shut causing too-high oil pressure and blowing the o-ring on the filter? you'd need to put a master oil pressure gauge on it to find out.

is the oil filter stud (the bit with the thread on the outside and a finger-sized hole up the inside that the filter screws to) tight in the filter bracket?

is it possible the oil filter is hitting something when the engine vibrates?
