Simex sizes

Post by Maxtd5def »

G'day all,

P211 of the August 2004 4wd Monthly has a Simex ad with the various dimensions of JT2s & ETs.

Some are different to the Simex website - looks more accurate

e.g. 35 10.50 ET is now 12" section width

Thats more like it!

I don't understand why manufacturers (Simex aren't the only ones) wrongly size their tyres. IMO if a 35' tyre is actually closer to 36' for example, then call it a 36'. Interco also often have a large discrepency between the size stated and actual size.

with interco some run big and others run small ..

My 35 bias claw's were almost smaller than my 33 swampers ..

My old 33x12.5 TSL's were closer to a 34 .. I know a few 34x9.5's that are more like a 32

They are measured at similar pressures ..

I have also seen an old and a new 36 TSL swamper .. The old half worn rubber dwarfed the brand new one Bot mounted on 8 inch rims at similar pressures ..

Do bias plys stretch with age ??

The Centipede Extreme Trekker is 10.5" wide and is easily distinguishable by only having 2 rows of centre lugs, it comes in diameters upto 35"
And the Centipede Extreme Trekker 2 is 12.5" wide, it has 3 centre lugs, it is upto 36" tall - ive got these, there is other sizes also.
From what Ive seen though these are the two main widths of the ET,
I think most JT2's are 11.5" though.

There is now a Centipede 35" x 11.5", it has the 2 centre rows but spaced a bit further appart and longer outer lugs.

Edit: Makes sense now

Bias ply tyres stretch with the force of going around.

they also can measure a different height from being parked overnight to being driven 100km's

Who cares what size they have printed on them, as long as they JUST fit in the guards... thats all that matters :)
