TOOLANGI NAVNITE WINCH CHALLENGE #2

Post by The Fish »

At work now after competeing last night. What a blast, just as hard as the first one with plenty of action. I was the winch biatch in the 75 series coily ute teamed up with Wally in his 80 ute again. Had a good night, minor damage which included re-arranged panels due to Wally parking the ute on its side, he was one of at least 3 cars that did this, and Simon bouncing the 75 cab of a couple trees. Also broke a pro rope which I coped across the chest and forearm! Pro rope does recoil especially when wet. But having said that I'm glad it was rope and not cable. Tracks were very greasy but the 8 stages were sensational. Think we stuffed too many stages to back up our third place in the first navnites but enjoyed it just the same.

How did you go Drafty? Heard you punched a hole in your fuel tank

Yea hole incident occured on stage 6 which was the first stage we did. Fuel consumption (not economy) was out the window for that one as we left close to 70 Litres in the bushed. The new GU rear diff meant that we had to modify the tailshaft and with articulation and full noise the uni came up and clipped the corner punching a hole in it. We were able to continue though as we have the tank split into two seperate areas incase of such an accident.

We also took out the front guard and drivers door on Wallys stage, that was pure bitch at the top, a tight hairpin with side slope.

Got through the rest of the night succesfully this time so hopefully did some good times, we were traveling around with Birdy and Alan May for most of the night so were able to guage our times against them.

All in all it was a great night we used it more as a prep for the Ateco just to sort out any last minute glitches with the car, communication, winching procedures and stuff like that. Havnt had much experience in winch comps so it was very educational and showed up a few flaws which we will iron out.

Thanks to Rudi, Hobsy and all the volunteers for puting on such a great night.
Joe.

Mmmm......panel damage.
Awesome event, not really one to attempt with a low mount though.
Weather was great, if it had rained we could be still out there and i was lucky enough to be driven to the top of more hills than i had to run up. Thanx to Drafty and the other 'Nutters' for having me on board.
Also thanx to all the guys who stand around all bloody night waiting for us to arrive at their SS's.
Toolangi has some more challenging tracks now....
I must say GU CV's have to be the strongest out there.

Looking for a photo of my 80ute having a rest on it side, would like to see from the outside as we stayed in the cab till it was back on its wheels and at the top didn't have time to discuss as we had to finish the stage.

Drafty, will be at the Ateco all weekend leading the media around and watching you blokes, so will try and catch but good luck anyway.
