Hey guys, bet ya heard this a million times
I'm new to 4x4'n and just after some educated advice.
I have a 1979 BJ40, I'm planning to do a SOA conversion and wondering what is involved, no one in my town has done one, and not too many 40 owners to talk to. Will I have to get or modify my draglink or steer shocker mounts? Will I have to change my LH steering knuckle? I have seen the Snake Racing ones but there $$$ Also I'd like to make some extended shackles does any one have a pin to pin measurement on BJ extds?
any help will be appreciated 'cheers'

g'day and welcome to the board.
to sort out steering id look at the ORI cross over arms. cheaper than the snake racing hy-steer arms. you shouldnt have to move your steering dampner.

with the extended shackles, the standard pin to pin measurement is 75mm. so for 2 inch extended (typical size) they would be 125mm.
remember the shackles will throw out your castor angles.
are you putting the shackles in with your SOA?

I wanted to run the ext shackles with the soa, is this a wise move for a daily driver or won't it matter that much? Will I gain much more articulation to warrant the shackle extension?
Pete - I'm running 31 kumo mt's at the moment. I dont know if I'll have much need to go bigger just yet. Oh and I'm from Swan Hill, 2hrs SE of Mildura.

um. soa is alotta lift. and 31s will look tiny.
i wouldnt bother using extended shackles.
My Opinion: to justify SOA i think the minimum size would be 37s.
you can run 35s with 2 inch body lift, 2 inch springs easily.
keep it as low as you can. some people like SOA, but i hate it. its not as racey any more.

Forget about the SPOA if you are going to run only 31's you will not only look like those tossers in their GQ's with 12" of lift running 33's but you will be making your rig way more unstable than it needs to be, not to mention $$$$$$, and did I mention looking like a toss pot.
Take the thousands you will put into your SPOA and put it toward lockers and such, and mabee a night out with the missus so she lets you get out and use it .
Peter.
