roll cage in a sporty 40

Post by bambam »

Has anyone successfully had a full cage engineered thru the NSW RTA fun police? The front hoop behind the windscreen is proving to be a problem with the local engineer here in Newcastle.

cages

Post by bambam »

I've done it now, I fab'd up a 6 point cage, but an engineer told me I can't have a front cage, only one behind the seats. So I bolted the side intrusion and top bars to the main hoop behind the seats so I can onbolt the whole front section in about 10 mins if I get defected. Then I can just put it back in when I want to go playing or i feel the need to look tuff ;)
Where u at in Newwy?

bambam, i spoke to athol and someone else (engineer guy) and most of them werent a fan of the roll cage idea. especially the front hoop.
but they arent fans of 40s at all!!!

why not get it engineered except for the front bit.

if you are going hardcore enough to need a front hoop, im sure some other bits of your truck are not engineered?

or tell him you will make it padded and buy him a few drinks to make it sweet.

it has to be safer then what was there too???

cagey stuff

Bob McKay was the eng. I spoke to, the only way he'd approve a front cage was if it was in fron of the screen and above roof height (its soft top). My shakles are too long, 3" body lift, has 35's on 15x8s (someone told me they're illegal now and Newwy cops have been defecting for it), race seats, custom front and rear bars etc. so it definately needs engineering. I'm posted to Katherine in the NT at Xmas for 2 years, then back to Newwy, so I'll ride my next 4 months out without an eng. report and think about one when I get back as I think I'll have troubles!
Besides, if I engineer it now, and get to Katherine and extend the wheel base, go the lexus quad cam V8 option etc. the report won't be woth much when I get back.
