New Hilux tyres

Post by cdnes »

Just bought a new 3.0 TD lux and want to change the HT tyres for BFG AT. I have been told that I can only go 30/9.5/15 and that the 31/10.5 would rub at full lock when off road. The 31's are my prefered size can anyone please tell if the are ok. :?: :?:

i have just put some 31/10.5 bfg at on my 98 3.0d lux and they do rub a little on the back of the wheel arch but i have farked torsion bars (need to turn them up). they only just hit on the thicker mud flaps i put on and its no drama for me. i think that sr5's may have issues with rubbing on the intergrated mud flap or something to do witht the flare but dont quote me on that. as far as im concerned the bfgs are the best mod ive done. bloody great.

Forget the BFGs go straight to Goodyear MTRs.
You should fit 31s with minimal rubbing.
Alot depends on the offset of your wheels too.
The further out the tyres are spaced (good for stability) the bigger the arc when turning and the easier they will foul the guards.

I fitted 32 inch BFGs on Landcruiser offset 15x8s to my 97 extra cab with no lift and they rubbed like mad :) Then I did a 40mm body lift and cleared them easily.
Now I have 33 inch MTRs and had to pound the firewall seam a little for clearance.

It's an SR5 with standard alloys and at this stage I don't want to lift it. Paul can you tell why you prefer the Goodyear MTR to the BFG A/T. THANKS :) :)

Just better all round off road grip with the MTRs.
They handle on road as good as the BFG allterains did just a little noisier.

I am figuring out what to put on my 3.4lt '03 hilux and I was advised that BFG 31x10.5's will slightly scrub on the mud flaps of a standard ute but will not scrub on the SR5. Yet to prove that though.
