My Inclinometer stopped measuring side slopes, so I pulled it apart to see if it's repairable. The plastic bit holding the front pivot pin is snapped, and with all the oily residue I doubt the superglue will work well - but I'm trying anyway. :roll:

If it doesn't survive the operation I'll have a hole in the module to fill. I could get another inclinometer, or put in something else altogether.

Any suggestions?

It's a great place to screw a GPS mount or mobile phone mount or a vase of flowers or anything else of more use than the Oh Shit gauge. I haven't seen my gauge for years, I was always too busy to look at it in those situations when the information may have been interesting.

I took mine out and fitted a more accurate water temp gauge. I've upped the compression ratio a bit and it can get a bit warm if we end up in the middle of a group of cars on single track. Got a nice little electric one from the local Autoblokes store for $20. It's a lot more accurate than the STD needle guesser thingy.

I'm sure you'll all be relieved to know that the Inclinometer survived surgery (although it was touch and go for a while - it nearly had a violent encounter with a wall...) and has been reinstalled on the dash. The decision on what to replace it with can wait until the next time it empties itself.

One less decision to make now! :lol:

Keep an eye on the fluid level.

I spent about a week fixing mine only to find my radio vomiting oil the morning after it went back into the car :shock:

How full are those things supposed to be ? and what is in them ? just water ? Mine looks like it should have more in it than it does. It's only about 1/4 full.

It's a fine oil - which makes it hard to glue and refill.

¼ full is probably a good indication that all is not well. Look at it this way - you can't loose too much more fluid. :roll:

I emptied what was left into a glass and added parafin oil - it formed two layers when I first added it, but after I mixed it they didn't separate again.

Mine had a crack in the back membrane - I first tried to silicone it up, but after a few days oil came out under the silicone, and then the silicone came off in my hand. :cry:

Next I tried superglue gel (just being slack :P ) and that sealed well until it dried, then it cracked along the original crack. :cry:

Third attempt was 5 minute araldite, which appears to have done the trick - I suppose time will tell. :?

There's a small chamber at the top which traps an air pocket, which I'm hoping will deal with expansion/sloshing issues. I drilled a small hole in this to top it up once I had it reassembled - about 50ml of oil, one drop at a time. :bad-words: I sealed the hole with silicone, and left a pin hole for the thing to breathe - I can't imagine that being completely sealed is a good idea.

I'm thinking about looking for a trip computer which might fit - anybody have any experience with such things? It's that or gut all three gauges and put a GPS in there? - but what to do for Oil Pressure and Volts?
