Plasma rope

Post by cplux »

No doubt been covered before but, what are peoples opinions on the best plasma style rope to get. Winch is one of the new warn 9.5ti low mount variety. My main concerns are abrasion resistance, ease of splicing and heat tolerance, though ive heard that the drum on the winch shouldnt heat up unless realing out under load????

Currently looking at dynamica rope, probably 10mm dia x 40+ m. Current wire rope is 8mm x 38m

Also how much could i squeeze onto the drum, would rather a rope that is as long as possible.

cheers

you will get 40 m with 10mm rope braking strain is 18,700 lbs
you will get 40 - 45 m with 8mm rope braking strain is 14,520 lbs
Wire and plasma both have there good and bad. The plasma is safest stronger but dearer. If your not in a rush when winching you can safeguard the plasma from scraping the ground and it will last. Cheers

Im runnin 11mm Purple Plasma rope now for 18 months is starting to get a little fluffy but still in good condition. You just have to watch it on sharp rocks otherwise fine.

Brawn Bronze is another good rope, slightly stronger, better temp and UV resistant but still just as vulnerable on rocks...usually a little cheaper too!

I got 45metres of 100mm Dynamica on my high mount.
Heaps better than wire for all the reasons mentioned before, the misses enjoys using it now. I cannot believe how strong it is thiough. Saw a tree protector bust during a winch recovery using synthetic rope so it stands up to what the manufacturers say.
I don't think I'll ever go back to wire.
