diff ratio's by G & J gears
diff ratio's by G & J gears
Hi am thinking of changing my diff ratios and want to go 4.6
I have heard some rumours that G & J gears are not very strong is this true?
Their price on 4wdworld was about $850 set + fitting
Also anyone know about snake racing diff ratio's? are they any good
Nissan Genuine are about $1000 per end
I mainly doing this to bring back my orginal gearing as i'm running 35's
cheers any advice be appreciated

When you say set, you mean for both diffs? If so, for $150, why wouldnt u go with Nissan ones??
and check archives, it has been done before, but OEM are stronger than G&J ones.
Have heard that the aftermarket ones arnt as strong. So if it is just a toy it isnt really a problem. But for a daily driver, have heard they are being worn out within 20 000km. Which in my case is every 6mths the rear would need an upgrade.
My plan would be to get genuine rears and maybe go aftermarket for the front. As the front probably only does a couple of 1000k's a year.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....

was told a diff was $1300 for front, but that was mates rates.. housing and center.
Check with places that do engine swaps. Most people that spend $15k+ on an engine swap, usually do diff ratio's too to compensate for the HUGE increase in power/torque.
I got F & R for my Mav' (4.6's) for $435 per end from LinQuip. Lindsay is a most helpful bloke!!
The thing that might make it a bit more difficult depends on your rear diff. If it's a H233, it'll be easier. If its a H260, it may be a little bit more difficult due to the fact that there's less H260's around. I know manual GU 2's ZD30 has a H260 (My wife's car) and most utes (correct me if I'm wrong out there!!)
When I got my gears (and air lockers) I was ringing around places to fit both. Three out of the four that I rang refused flat to install gears if they were G&J's quoting quality issues.
Try LinQuip and Brunswick Diesels in WA, plus any other shops you or any others know of.
Hope this helps.
Regards

Not sure if these are G&Js, but prices look to be a hell of a lot more favorable:
