Just interested to guage people' s opinions on the avarage offroad ratings the latest 4wd monthly gave the wrangler mtr's- especially considering their use in competitions and the fact bfg muddies got higher rated and yet their technology is at least 10years old

ps I have no experience with MTR's except for noteing that they are great in snow.
Well i am on my second set of MTR's and driving them in direct comparison with BFG muds i have found them much better. Driving trails with similarly set up tj with BFG same size as my MTR they love thew rock sooooo much more.

I have had BFG 33's and MTR 33's.
In conditions in Vic, the MTRs shit on the BFGs. They work excellent in mud, wet roads, dry roads (they are my daily tire) snow, and dirt roads.
Remember they are no bogger or swamper, but in the MT class (BFG MT, Coopers STT, MTR, X-terrain) I would have them out on top.
Too many horror stories on the BFG MT KM's to even try them, too much $$ to lose.
But remember all tires work different on different cars, driving styles, pressures, and expectations.

I have found the bfgs are ok-abitshit at low pressures (16-20psi) but they work a shit load better at about 8-10 PSI (on my rangie) only prob then is there stooopid weak sidewalls are easily damaged mine are already pretty much farked.
One tire that I whitness to work realy well on the weekend was my mates new SWB patrol with the Maxiss Mudzillas man they are soft and at 14PSI they moulded to everything and anything and worked realy well, IMHO they shit all over the radial claws but we are yet to see how quickly they wear

I recently got a set of the 33x13.5 Maxxis Mudzillas ($270ish ea). They worked really well off road but have not aired them down yet (no need) cause they run at 25 on road, which works well off too! Brett from austyre Gold Coast (Rolly from here) said that they are good to 10-12psi offroad! I found them nice and soft, but wearing a bit on road, as they are used for both! However they should be very good on wear over the next few months!

MTR Review
I used to slash sidewalls all the time when I ran BFG's. Now with MTR's I have not managed to hurt one of them — to me they seem much tougher when used off road. In contrast to the mag test I think they are a fair bit noisier on road — at least once they wear a bit.
As soon as it was made idiot proof, someone went and designed a better idiot.

In direct comparison Mudzillas - Rafdial Claws
Mudzillas are a shit load softer
On rocks the Mudzillas are in a clas of there own (shit on the Radial Claws)
On sand both these tyres are in close competition but I say the Mudzilla seem to be a touch better
The mudzilla doesnt chunk up its lugs as easily and moulds to its surrounding with ease
We havnt put it through mud yet so no camparison for the two.
On road the mudzillas are quiet and smooth, but I think that it wont be to long b4 we see the mudzilla wearin down, The radial claws will outlast the mudzillas in the wear department.
My cuz has the Radial Claws on his TJ and is contemplating changing to the Maxxis Mudzilla or Crawler soon (and he loved the claws.... until he seen the mudzillas in action )
All this was derived from a long saturday out ormeau and is purely the general opinion we got on the entire day from all who were present

Thanks dude...yea know Rolly sells em, was just thinkin of a possibility for offroaders on second rims.

The same type of tyre will perform quite differently at different sizes and under different vehicles let alone at different tyre pressures. Use these sort of comparisons as a general guide only your best bet is to ask people who have them on similar cars to yours and in similar sizes. Personal experience speaks louder than a single comparison.

agreed heck I am satisfied with my skinny arse 255/85 BFGs when there down to 10PSI I just dont think they will last long in the sidewall department

Try procomp, cheezy, sandy bowman, or PM Rolly from this forum, he imports them, and freight is stuffall, ask NAM he got some 37s from Qld to Melb.
