Replacing Trans. Mount - A do-it-yourself job?

I just collapsed my Transmission Mount and was wondering if I can replace it myself or if there is anything special I need to know before attempting it. I've got basic mechanic skills.

as far as i know theres only 2 transmission mounts and they are both on the bottom sitting on top of the crossbeam that supports the tranny. what you want to do is remove the nuts off of the tranny mounts, get a jack with a block of wood on it and place it under the tranny, jack up the tranny til it barely moves off of the crossbeam, then proceed to remove the crossbeam, change mounts, then reinstal the crossbeam and then reattach the nuts for the tranny mounts. make sure those nuts are on there hella tight as they can vibrate off if you dont have em locked down well. i already lost one of the nuts and am having a hell of a time trying to find one with the right thread size that fits. this was over 2 years ago. also, you may need a second jack to help you with the crossbeam as that is a bitch to get on. see if you can get 2 bolts on one side but leave em loose, then line up the holes on the other side and get 4 of them in, and have them in mid way, then go back to the other side with 2 bolts, add the last 2, tighten em up, then tighten up the other side as tight as you can, then go back and retighten the other side. pretty straightforward otherwise.

oh man.... most mech. stuff are pretty easy... u jus gotta have the time, the know-how, and the tools to do so.... just be logical about it. because everything that is mech. related will always be a logical machine.

Put some Loctite or use Nyloc nuts if they vibrate off.

You may want to loosen the other engine mounts if you plan on jacking up the gearbox, otherwise you could break them too.

david, all he has to do is just support the tranny, hes not jacking it up farther than it needs to go. which is simply just a tad off of the crossmember so he knows he has it supported before he removes the crossmember.

Be careful how tight u do up the bolts that go into the gbox.
Its only alloy and it may strip.
But the ones on the mount itself, tight as u can (within reason of course)
