37" on an 80series

Post by john doe »

hello all,

bit of a newbie tech wise.
i have an 95' deisel 80 and want to go all out on the tyres, suspension, running gear. Am thinking on going 37" x-terrains, 5"-6" lift no body lift and altering the diff ratio's so its comfortably drivable in high range. But i know nothing about diff work. i want the 4wd to accelerate and generaly drive normally. My question is are there kits available for diff ratio changes and can you recomend a workshop for that kind of operation. Will 5"-6" spring lift clear the 37" without a bodylift ?

Plus any thoughts or suggestions are very welcome.

Thanks

I dont think 37's will clear on the front. The problem will be the guards
near the firewall. Snake racing have different gear sets available for about $550 i think.. www.snakeracing.com.au

I'll let you know - I have 2" body lift, 3" coils and 35's that clear nicely now.

4 weeks to go - so I'll let you know when they get bolted on.

Don't forget that the higher you go the worse the Centre of Gravity gets and 80's have allot of weight up high.... The Guards clear 38's without much fuss, so you should be in business but remember that on side angles it will want to lay on her side and have a sleep...

FYI - I'm chucking NAMS maxxis on - they worked for a friend at Ateco....

Ive had 37 and 38"s on the missus 93 GXL 80 and the flares didn't like to much articulation and steering at the same time. I made 40mm longer front radius arm and that helped with clearance at the back of the front gaurd and had to trim the rear edge of the ARB Delux bar to stop it cutting the tyres The flares, mudflaps are looking very second hand and the plastic moulds at the rear of the side steps were torn off.

we ran 38's with 6 inch springs & a 50mm bodylift, had no rubbing drama's of any kind, ran fiberblass flares but didn't touchem. should work with 6 inch spring lift & only 37's. if they touch at the rear of the front just put some offset bushes in the rear of the front control arms so they move forward approx 12mm.

I dont know how you would go without chopping the back guards a bit, ive got 6-7' lift (no body lift) in my GXL 80 and the 35's give the rear flares a hard time on the rear of the rear guards.

Dont think flares would love life without some guard trimming or a body lift if you wanna keep em.

Only rub when fully compressed and tucked up in guard, they are on 10" rims tho so this might make a small difference??
