Steel saw

Post by high n mighty »

Im going to buy a cheap GMC steel drop saw this morning. I have used them at a few workplaces and they seem to get along alright, and when they do bust they are generally in warranty.
I like to buy decent (read expensive) tools when possible but atm I think this saw is all I need to build my tray and sliders and bar etc.

Is there any better saws at a similar price around??

I'm sure you have heard all this before, but I had a GMC one and it was junk. The table bent very quickly and the little toggle that locks or freeslides the threaded bit of the jaws hogged out. I think that this happened after two years of quite infrequent use.

I have replaced it with a DeWalt and I am very happy with it. Much easier and quicker to use.

My dad has a GMC drop saw and has built heaps of little things plus the front of my old shed with it just remember not a lot of pressure to cut let the saw do all the work and should be fine.

I had a NRG (GMC rivials) it was utter crap burnt the trigger out and twisted the hell out of the frame (less twist in my old LC 355 stroker with out a chassis kit :D ) it did this while under warranty, took them 4 months and it still wasnt repaired then 2 more months to get my money back :x :x :x .

If it makes your tray (if this is what you mainly want it for at present) plus other things before it claps out then $99 is cheaper then $200+ for a makita or dewalt
