Hi guys,

Was just interested in what all of you are running for your rubber. And the pros and cons of each type/size, etc.

I have 235/75/R15 Goodyear Wrangler AT/R's on mine, haven't had any dramas with them yet, but has anyone heard good/bad about these tires.. :?:

Have noticed ppl complaining bout burning clutches out when on MT/R's.

Do the AT/R's have the same problem... :?:

Any knowledge would be appeciated. (Not that I will be changing them, if I destroy anything because of the tires though, I will obviously have to replace that).

The origonal tyers i had on the car when i bought it new was
205/75/R15 Goodyear Wranglers 0-53517kms
Then,
215/75/R15 Kelly Safari AWR 53517-110526 kms
were quite happy with these so i got another set
225/75/R15 Kelly Safari AWR 110526-180140 kms
they were balanced when they were put on and rotated at about 10000kms in, and after that not a thing was done to them apart from checking pressures occasionaly. They still had a bit of meat left on them when i got the next set, Very happy with those.

Then dad got a set of BF Goodrich AT's for his disco, so i bought a set too
235/75/R15 BFG AT's 180140- approx 215000 kms
These r the best ones i have had yet.

I had a set of those on my old feroza but in 31's... they were ok off road but shit on road... get a suspension lift and put some baja claws on it....

I'm going MT/R's within the next few weeks.....235/75/15.

I recently put a post up bout tyres and you'll find that there hundreds of different views bout which tyres are best.

In the end I decided to just buy what i thought was the best for my needs. Hence the MT/R's.

The most frustrating thing was that what worked great for one person, caused major drama's for some one else.

Keep researching and i'm sure you'll find the right set........eventually.

Yeah, have found that to be the case.

When purchased, mine had General Grabber's 235/75/R15 on the front (bald) and BFG All Terrain's 30x9.5/R15 (I think this was the size) on the back (still have 50% or more of tread left if anyone is interested).

And the thing drove like a big piece of sponge rubber, and handled like bare feet on an ice rink.. :!: :!: :!: Especially in the wet, and off-road, how should i put it...like driving with slicks in the rain... Crappy combination, not to mention bad for my diff.

So we got the Goodyear Wrangler AT/R's on it, nothing to complain about YET.

Much better off road too, even compared to the BFG's, was quite surprised.

I have 235X75X15 Pirelli Scorpion All Terrains on at the moment, dont mind them till it gets wet or really tricky...

If you are going to off road a lot then get muddies, if occasional then all terrains, if not at all then do whatevers...

I bought mine cos they were cheap through a mate that owns a Bob Jane, and I was about to go O/S so had to save some dosh... I would get them again if I was driving off road only on occasion, but I want MT/R's or BFG Muds next...and soon.

I am surprised by the strength in the sidewall... I took a hit last weekend in a rut that really shook the car, when I aired up i noticed the front left steelie has a ding in it and there is a good one inch cut in the sidewall, but no leaks and no issues...

I would agree to that too, if you change to bigger tyres, you need to change you driving style and you expectations of both the car on road and off road.

Yeah, see I haven't changed my diameter or width (just changed brand and tread pattern, except on rear, which didn't match the front anyway) just went to the goodyear's. As I said earlier, no problems so far, and my clutch only has dramas if I thrash the crap out of it, which is a rare occurance.

235/70R15 Cooper A/T perfect for Adelaide where there's stuff all off road stuff to do.

FrozzaII if you're running 235/75R15 then you're already running tyres around 40mm larger diameter than stock (225/70R15). Check the tyre placard in your glovebox and you'll see the standard sizes listed for rims and tyres.

I had MTR's on my rig for about 25000 km's with out any clutch problems.
Now I have Simex muddys that I am yet to get dirty on the tracks... :cry:
Just got to find the time to get out there.

set 1-215/75r15 BFG a/t for on-road
set 2-235/75r15 wild country muddies for off-road

Should have this week

Ditto. Couldnt be bothered to changed them. Though i would like to run 235/75 R15 tyres on the road. But unfortunately i couldn't find mud tyres at that size. Plus the Simex Centipede 31 inch was the smallest off road tyres i could find. And they cost equivalent to Oz $120 a piece here.

But i know a few ning kum poop who slapped on a set of 35 inch Extreme Trekker Centipede on his Rocky the other day. And i thought it was a joke coz they were running on standard Rocky Axles.
One broke something in his drivetrain.
And the other landed on its side and as usual i've to do the recovery.
My RIG sucks big time.

Picking up 5 16x7 rims on saturday :D
Already got the tyres and will get them fitted 2 the rims.
Only problem I think i'll have is the tyres may touch the plastic corners on the front bumper.
May have 2 give them a trim :twisted:
