Finding a Styleside Bed for 89`-96` Hilux single cab 4x4

got a triple M alloy tray on there now if anyone wants that and some cash for there styleside???

Try ringing around Toyota Dealerships near buy. I recently picked up a brand new dual cab SR5 style side with flares and mud flaps really cheap, which is going to be used on my girlfriends LOWLUX project.

If anybody wants some genuiene rear flares and mudflaps for 97+ dual cab style side PM me. Going Cheap!!!!

The dual cab and Extra cab bodys off the current style Hilux are everywhere as you cant buy a current dual cab or extra cab without a stylside. There is no other option. Where as if you buy a single cab it is sold as Cab Chassie only. If you want a styleside or an ally tray you pay extra.
A good second hand single cab tray to suit a current model is worth up to $2000 where as i have seen body works companies cutting up New Dual cab and extra cab bodies just so they fit in a scrap bin easier.


Finding a 89-96 model single cab stylside is near impossible.

Would a extra cab tray fit on a single cab?

If so you could build some racks between the tray & cab to mount spare tyres, jerrys etc etc

Seen something like that done before, dunno if the setup was exactly the same.

Just an idea for ya.

yeah i got offered a extra cab one for $150!! but not interested in it cause i dont want the hassle of making something to fill the space and single cab fits a dirt bike in it while still being able to close the tailgate,

i found a single cab one today!! $600 really straight and in top nick!
recon ill probably take it

thats true, i sold a 2003 4x4 single cab tray for 2800 bucks, the guys told me i was a fucking rip off and he could get one for about 300 bucks.....he came back and bought it. Like ruff said an xtra or dual is worth the tailgate and thats about it.

Are you sure? I know I have seen older Hilux's getting around with current trays on them. I just have never taken any notice of what year model the older Hilux was.

However I was looking in caryards today and took my tape meaure to check out the 97+ tray on a pre 96 dual cab. I figure it will bolt straight up.

Then to my surprise I am at one yard and what do I see............... a pre 96 dual cab hilux with a post 97 tray on it!!!

The tray bolts straight on except you need spacers on the front mounts as on the new lux to flatten out the chassis roll it has long mounts on the chassis but the old lux has long mounts on the tray. So you just need to put a spacer in to fill the void. Although on the one I saw they weld a new mount over the old one. Stronger perhaps but a pain in the arse to do.

what you said, plus the flair section is wider so looks gay and you are left with about a 30mm gap between the cab and body, not a 15 like usual. i know it isnt much but it is enought to look wrong.

so to answer your first question, no it wont bolt right on. and to answer the rest of them yes you can make it fit.

call your local toyota dealer and you should be able to get one complete really cheap.

Theres a 82 lux single cab gets around here with a brand new extra cab style side tub and he has put his spare and jerry can between the gap it looks alright and makes you look twice.

30mm gap? The gap looked a little smaller than standard if anything.

Didn't notice anything unusual about the wheel arch size.

Overall the only reason I actually even realised that it wasn't the original tray was the tail lights. It looked like such a good fit I had to look twice (if not more). Then I noticed the front of the rear wheel arch (old shape is fully incorporated in the tray however the new one has wheel arch partly into the cab). Then looked at the modified front tray mounts. Lastly I noticed the 10mm poking out of the tray past the cab. However the pre 89 models did that from the factory.

The ute I saw also the wheel arch did not perfectly line up over the wheel but I think it was only noticable because of the 31in tyres this ute had. The wheel arch was to far forward.

Maybe the ones you have seen have had the tray moved backwards to line up the wheel arch and thus you have a 30mm gap between tray and cab?

The ute that we will be fitting the tray to is a 2wd with 14in wheels so will not be an issue.

Anyway I plan on talking to Toyota as well as some alloy/steel tray manufacturers. I should be able to find heaps this way. Ute is white so that will help.
