The original question was about tools, and responses appear to be including spares and recovery gear. "Tools" mean different things to different people...

Whenever you work on your car work from the car's tool kit. If it's missing something you need, then think about it!

I just spent the afternoon replacing gearbox and tcase oils - gearbox needs 27mm spanner for drain and filler, tcase needs 24mm :x - and the drain plug is right next to the torsion bar, so you can't get a socket on it. :x :bad-words: I haven't tried the diffs yet. :?

Guts, try a little spit - it's got me outta trouble!

Join Telstra, spend 10 years amassing your dream tool kit, then forget to hand it in when you quit....

Now I'm not sure an $800 multimeter that doubles as a heart defibrilator is required to check light globes, but who am I to judge???!!!!

Depends on the trip, who else is going, and what tools they are taking.

Work it out with ya mates that you take screwdrivers and socket set, someoen else take spanners and hammer etc, other takes lubes etc.. Saves on room.

my only tool kit is the car kit, but i must admit, that it's the best way, cause you learn what you use and don't use.

spare nuts and bolts, now why didn't i read that yesterday, try to get the nuts and bolts in the thread size as your standard nuts and bolts, i learnt the hard way yesterday that toyota fuel filter nuts fit the manifold bolt...
