98 ST TD patrol

Post by X-R-Cist »

im in the market for a new 4b, as the assfinder(pathfinder) is on its way out (poor lil bugger got me through so much), anyway i have my eye set on a patrol. I really like the 98 model ST, turbo deisel 2.8L. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to watch out for?

The price is 27K, comes with a new set of BF goodrich AT, snorkle, bullbar, spotties, towbar and side steps.

If you know of any other patrol which are better, or i could get the same year model with a 3L engine for the same price or lower, please let me know.

Apart from that, performance wise, on and off road, if anyone has any comments they are all welcome.

It seems bit pricey for 98 model :?
You can't get 3.0 that year as they came out in 2000,although early 3.0 l aren't very popular, due to it's teething problems

save your pennies and go with the 4.2 the 2.8 is a slug and has the car running gear behind it.

Bloke in club got a 4.2 GU for $32k at auctions.

I test drove one today, i must say that my pathy will beat it off the mark, maybe even a datto would too. but anyway leaving the slugishness behind, anyone have any experience with these things offroad?
I dont do very hardcore stuff that would require 900Nm of torque or anything like that, just mild- average tracks.

Ive got GQ 2.8 which is almost the same but without intercooler and fancy injectorpump. As said above thay have smaller gear box and lack low down power so if you can put up with that it will be fine and good on juce BUT before you buy take it for a test drive with six of your fattest mates and find the steepest hill in town and try a hill start . Then once your at the top with a cloud of clutch smoke think about how much worse it would be in steep broken rock steep track with camping gear stacked to the roof +your fat mates. PS 4.5 GU`s are going for around 20k I would find one of those on gas as Diesel and petrol are not getting any cheeper buy the way i think the 2.8 is a good motor just under powerd Good luck . steve[/quote][/u][/i]
