Noisey Car After Lift

Since picking up my Fez from getting it's lift done, it's developed a noise when travelling at over 100km. It's not there when i'm accelerating but as soon as i back off it starts a whining noise. I cant determine where it comes from but it seems to be round the front somewhere.

It's a long shot but I wanted to see if anyone else had a similar problem?

Could it be because of the increased air space between the tires and the guards?

Hmmm, there are noises in mine as well... I am gonna repack the wheel bearings as they are due for it after sitting in the mud a few times.

It could be your castor/camber adjustment as well. Best to get a wheel alignment with the new treadies.

Not knowing the height you lifted it, but it sounds like you have vibration in the driveshaft due to misaligned drive flanges.

Not really major in the short term, the vibration from the shaft comes from the two flanges (transfer case and diff) not being parallel, this can sometimes arise with short wheel base rigs when a lift is fitted. The pinion on the transfer case remains fixed, but the angle of the uni at the t case end increases to the lower diff position. The diff itself is lowered, but pivots from the link mounting point (the leaf spring chassis mount at the front of the spring) so the uni angle prolly won't increase that much at the diff pinion. The potential damage is from slight to bad-> uni joints get worn prematurely (pretty easy to change and about 35 bucks a throw) to flogged diff and t case bearings and housings.

You can buy wedge shims to correct bad pinion alignment, these fit between the diff and the leaf springs.

As you accelerate the diff pinion will tilt up to 'point' to the transfer case, on decel (with engine braking) the pinion will tilt down towards the ground, the axle wrap might be be exacerbating the vibration.

What material did u use for the lift? Did you reuse the original factory body mounts as well? If you didnt, and the lift blocks are solid, then it could just be normal road noise, normally reduced and not heard because of the dampening and insulating effect of the rubber mounts, but now being transmitted into the body, which would now, in effect, be a huge sound box, like a guitar body.

My driveline shakes have gone almost completely, only a mild rattle in second. I was also getting a grinding like noise coming when I hit the anchors and sometimes coasting, but fixed it.

I pulled the front hubs off and found most of the bearing grease had either washed out of gummed up with mud so I repacked them and now no noise and smooooth running!

Just thought i'd bring up an old post.

After new tyres and getting the bars wound up alittle more the noise has been greatly reduced. It's still there but it seems to be getting better.

Guess u were right croz...... :)

My noises are back... just about to go out to the shed to replace the wheel bearings.

I got a wheel alignment done much to the horror of the guy at pedders!! Apparently need new lower ball joints, outer tie rods and idler and pitman arms...

Looks like I'll be doing some more work on it pretty soon....

Wheel bearings replaced... those arms are a bit wobbly... gonna have to wait till next weekend...
