4A GZE in a Jimny?
4A GZE in a Jimny?
Just a curiosity question, has anybody tried this?
Its come time for me to change cars again and I'm considering this as I've got the motor already in an old RWD Corolla but it has been slaughtered by hail and probably not worth fixing the body.
My 1st question would be fairly common with this motor in a sierra, Does it have rediculously too much grunt? It's crazy fast and fun in the 800kg rolla but would seem kind of sketchy if it went the same in a zook.
How does the zook drivetrain hold up to the extra power?
Would it fit in a Jimny with a T50 gearbox?
How possible would engineering be with suspension & bodylift as well.
Would emissions be a prob? Engine is still in good nic and it's the newer model but I imagine it would have to meet the standards of the car it's going into is that right?
Do you guys with them in sierra's have to upgrade the brakes? What's involved with that?
It's just a thought to help me decide wether to put rego on the Corolla again or start a new project.
Thanks

ripping out the engine out of a jimny would be pricy way to start a project a vitara or serria would be a better option. the sums look kinda like this
jimny $15000+fitting bits $1500 - selling engine $1200 = 15300
vitara $6000 + fitting bits $1500 + sas 3000 - selling engine $1200 =$9300
lwb serria is an option too

Ive got a 4agze sierra it still has standard brakes ,running a t50,series 3 rockhopper,5in sus lift & a bodylift.have done 2 others very similar 1 passed in wa the other the other passed in nsw no problems.
Only breakage so far was the 6 x 12m head hub bolts since replaced with high tensile cap screws. Not sketchy to drive unless you drive at high speed ,because i tried a high speed run & backed off at just over 200kph it had more in it but that kind of speed in any sierra is SCARY..(Note closed course, gps & another vehicle with accurate speedo to check speed , i've done that speed once & won't be doing it again + it only had 2in lift then ) .
Doesn't get beaten often on the road really annoys rex's, a Jimny could be done but may have emissions issues,I paid $12900 for my wifes jimny. It would be different also would change t/case in a jimny with gze.
Im looking to upgrade front brakes to vitara estate wagon calipers & rotors (bolt on upgrade i've done it to one of the others i converted). The worst thing is the tailshaft & the hydraulic clutch conversion, let me know if yoou need any info .Where abouts are you ?
hope the info helps.

The cost isn't a major issue Combining 2 cars into one is gunna end up saving me money ( Yeah right) so I'm want to go something a bit different, and I used to have a Jimny a few years ago and still like em.
Drew, I'm in Wollongong, 45mins south of Sydney. I was thinking of a rockerhopper so a transfer swap would be on the cards, does this have to be moved at all or just just a new shaft made up?
Also how much fabricating is involved? Engine mounts, gearbox crossmember etc.
How can I find out about emissions rules, probably a good idea to look into if it's gunna be legal first.

Engage an engineer straight up. It'll have to be approved anyway so he'll give you the drum on emissions too

All that from a heavy 130kw donk?? I know of a turboed 20V Age that cant even pull close to that. 200+ km/h out of a spook with a yota 1600.... "Tell him he's dreaming"

I'd believe it, My Corolla speedo only goes up to 170km/h but it has no trouble getting back all the way round to zero again still with more to go and that is still a stock motor.
The 20v aren't all they are cracked up to be, they make the same power as the gze on paper but it's all up high and peaky. Turboing kind of wrecks whats good about them because they are so finely tuned to run N/A with the quad throttlebodies and vvt and lightweight free reving components etc. You're better off sticking with the stronger built motor designed for forced induction, Turboed gze's can run around on 25psi all day without a worry, 3 small valves over 2 big ones wont give you that much more volume at that kind of pressure.
Thanks Mick I'll look around, any suggestions on who is good?

Don't know anyone in your neck of the woods but someone here will for sure
Ok in a sierra you need eng mounts & gearbox crossmember + jackshaft the tranfer case doesn't move .
The jimny will need the same + the other 2 shafts if you change the trans case..
Now for an engineer there is a good one in campbelltown that i had a sierra engineered with an eng conversion, suspension lift, body lift & 8in rims it was a few years ago i'll pm you his details if you like, just need to dig out a copy of the certificate..

as for dreamin believe what you like there were plenty of wittnesses, pay for an airfair & hire of the track & radar so you can see for yourself

One of the guys in our club just bought a sierra on 38" boggers with a Jimny EFI engine and 4agze supercharger. Havent seen it yet...
It was really stupidly cheap too (although so unroadworthy since the bonnet is now at the same height of the roof of a stock sierra.
I'd imagine it's similar in layout to what Overkill was doing.
I'll see if I can get some shots of it in the next extreme club run.
Hopefully you can see this

After thinking about it a bit more over the last couple of days I'm keen as to do it now and pretty damn tempted to start tearing into the corolla since it just ran out of rego and is sitting there looking sad.
I should know if it's feasable $ wise in a few of weeks hopefully when I get a few contracts renewed so don't worry about that guys details just yet thanks Drew but I'll send you a PM when I get serious.
Thanks for all the input people, I hope I can get this happening.... Jimny, Lifted, Locked, Blown and the rest.....Mmmmm carnage...
