Mechanic's

Post by Dozoor »

I was just wondering if any one has got any rippa storys on certifiable certifieds - I,am about to put a tthe motor together for my thing ,and just finished pulling it down the old owner had the engine rebiult by a reputable shop apantly although no names as its only heresay,
Any way's the Knukle head used by what i can tell 307 head gaskets on a 350 chev , Its as plian as day the metal ring on the gasket was some 1/4 of an inch smaller in diameter then the bore size , amazingly this motor allegedlly ran well for about three years
The metal rings are burnt out of the gasket in areas and of course created a few other problems here and there .Im amazed they even sealed at all :?

Another i had was a little cross flow escort motor Quiet a few bucks spent on machining , and assembled by mmmm , short run in period interupted by Siezed Bearing on number 1 rod , Decided to pull the thing down and have a look myself , certianly seized bearing on no 1 took the meltdown bearings off the crank , Low en behold look at this METAL fresh metal drilling remanents in the oil gallery on the crank Fools didn,t bother blowing out or tubbing the crank after machining n before assembly. :?

Losing a little faith here .

Anyone else ?

Larry.

Worst experience I had was not with a mechanic but when I bought a hotted up 308 hq ute years ago. Not bad really I guess

The motor was ok but the plan was to eventually strip it and start again.
Well the decision was made for me when not long after purchace I gave it a bootfull on the highway and watched the temp gauge rise......

Not long and there is all this smoke comming out the back.... and temp off the chart. Pull into servo quick smart get out and find coolant pouring out the exhaust pipe!

Long story short the clown had ripped his good B cast heads and shit off and replaced but used the same friggin head gaskets to put heads back on!

Motor i am running in my hilux at the moment was reconditioned by a well known sydney engine reconditioners

Blew a head gasket pulled the head off and instead of using the proper head gasket they had used one from the next size up motor

Which resulted in the metal ring only just covering the water port

Didnt take long for the water to push past the metal ring on 2,3, and 4 cylinders

Not happy jan
