i've cracked my air-filter casing on my mq sd33. The filter that sits on top of the engine block. its now got a nice size hole in it. both cracks have happened at the front and rear mounts and mud sometimes gets in their, which ain't good.
Has anyone had this problem before?
I have been to the wreckers to try and get a second hand one but they all had cracks in them. (to much power in the old diesel)
Is their a simple way to repair it? or does it need to be replaced? Is their anyone who sells them other than nissan?
One thing i have seen at the wreckers is one guy had gotten rid of the filter and justed used the cannister filter and had a pipe going from that filter to the engine. is that safe not having 2 filters, im sure their are 2 filters for a reason.
Any suggestions are appreciated
Thanks
Lyall

Wanted: MQ ute body
A friend of mine only used the round canister filter after puting an intercooler in place of the big cleaner. The small canister doesnt work effectively enough on its own and dust still gets in. He ended up snaping the shaft between the two fans in the turbo, cost him a new turbo and an engine rebuild.
