sticking t'case lever

have noticed my transfer shift lever has been getting really hard to pull out of 4wd. It shifts easily between 4high and 4low but is really hard to get from 4high to 2high

what causes this and how do you fix it.

it doesnt matter if hubs are in or out but if you put it in to 4wd and move its a real effort and makes a big clunk when going back to 2wd.

theres a bush under the stick that many have replaced with a nolathane one, around $20 I think...this is said to be usual cause...I believe you just push stick down, and turn, like a child proof lid :) hopefuly its nothing serious, christover

i think christover is right. i've had it happen to me on 2 different zooks. both times i replaced the bush thingy and it was fine :D

Also make sure that when your shifting you do it in a |_| pattern (square) and not in a U pattern as most of us will do .. or you will find that the lever will end up jumping out of the shift gates ..

Probably that bush everyone is talking about :) Replace it now before it breaks on you on the beach 2 hours from home on a fuggin hot day :x :bad-words: Buy 2 and carry a spare ;)

You can wrestle the case into gear if it blows though by romoving the broken bush :?

last time i changed the bush in my zook i replaced it with one that cost me a whole $4, but last week i fixed 82zuk's t/case , it had neutralised itself so it had been sitting unloved for quite a while. Anyway after telling mandy that its a 30second job i started work on it, after 45min i finally had the whole transfer out of the car , then after 10 minutes of bashing the retainer cap with a cold chisel i finally got the stick out, 5 seconds to allign the rails and 10 seconds to put the cap back in "properly" minus the thick layer of mud and rust from someone not putting on the rubber boot and deciding to play in the mud? :?

so my 30 second job turned into 1 1/2 hours of pain :cry:

but Grumpy now lives, despite trying to adjust the rear brakes and finding that there are no rear pads :roll:

there are some people here in the states that repair the shifter bushing in their tranny by buying a bushing from the local home improvement store. it is the bushing that reduces drain pipe from 1 1/2" to 1 1/4" under your sink. it is poly and will last a while. it works on a tranny, and i figure it will work on a t-case as well...
