Nissan auto engaging hubs
No, it takes less than one rotation of the axle shaft to engage the hubs, and does not require the vehicle to move an inch (common misconception). You could be stuck in 2WD, throw the lever, and engage the hubs as the rear tires spin in place, but in the process you can dig the rear deeper into trouble and/or cause the rear to slide to one side in off-camber situations, and the shock can be hard on the hubs (CVs/axles too) when they catch the spinning shaft.
Unlocking requires reversing (opposite direction from last while in 4WD anyway) for a short distance, typically a meter or two, but the manual says more.
I hear talk of auto hubs unlocking briefly in overrun conditions, but I think it's another myth, or at least an overinflated concern.

In search of an MQ (offset) H233b rear, housing only preferred, plus a complete GQ or GU front (4.6 ratio ideal) to be shipped to the US. Cheap! Email/PM if you can help.
